More iPad Sales Estimates

Brainstorm Tech reports Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster's sales estimates for iPad's first day:
In a report to clients issued Saturday night, Munster's estimated that by midnight Sunday, Apple will have sold 600,000 to 700,000 iPads, including pre-orders — more than double his relatively conservative pre-launch estimate of 200,000 to 300,000. (Other analysts had published estimates of 300,000 to 400,000.)

It took Apple 74 days to sell its first million units of the original iPhone, and three days each to sell a million units of the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3Gs.

They should rename this site iHuffPost given the amount of Apple pushing that happens on this site.

Not surprised that media outlets are pushing this really - they all have a vested financial interest in its success, especially the paper publications.

Huffpost always was, is and will be a PR apparatus (willingly or paid) for Apple products.

If any of you are interested in investing in the iPipe for Men email me here. Also they will manufactured in the iUSA. Don't want to risk these devices corroding anything they touch like the Dry Walls that were made in China.

Don't believe anything negative you read about the iPad. It is fantastic, particularly the applications. I am particularly impressed with Pages, and Keynote. Also Bloomberg and Reuters have done an incredible job with stunning and beautiful applications.
Also, the Netflix application is nice, since you can watch streaming movies.

As the British would say, fully kitted out this thing is over a thousand dollars.
I opened my newspaper today and the Best Buy flyer has a Mac Book Pro for just over a thousand dollars.
Why wouldn't I just buy that instead?

Buy the damn thing then. I guess the reason you "wouldn't" is because you are too focused on the iPad.

With so many people out of work how are people able to come up with over a thousand dollars for it? Are they using credit cards or what? Maybe not the best use of their funds at this point in time. Isn't this one of the many reasons people in this country have gotten into the financial mess they are in? I don't begrudge people anything they want but good grief. I think a journalist (if there are any left) should do an story on how people are paying for the i pad. That would be more interesting than how someone waited in line for 2 days and the features the unit has.

It is $500. And we don't get out of the recession by not spending.

Exactly. Since we no longer create products/mine resources to create wealth, we have to manipulate fiat currency backed by an ever increasing debt load to create economic activity and maintain our lifestyle.

And what do we buy with that increasing debt load? A useless consumer product that after purchase not only adds zero productivity to the economy, but also continually depreciates in value.

God, how depressing. I'm moving to China before everything implodes here.

greasy finger prints, they'll be third party screen protecters etc... needs time, i think the second generation models will be improved, needs a camera too.

The secret is branding. Apple can improve the pencil by 10% and make it sound that it's a brand new item and people would flock and buy it.
Apple must have some of the greatest psychologists that understand how they can make us perceive some products as superior when they are not: Imagine Apple coming up with the netbook! (s'cuse me the inetbook)
09:11 AM on 04/04/2010
That's essentially what this is, albeit with a touchscreen and less computer horsepower than netbooks. And, of course, it's expensive, so they call it a new category. In fact, it's not. It's an internet appliance concept of a decade ago. It's based on the concept of passive, locked-in, consumption of premium content.

which is great unless you want to work on your own car all the time...
I don't. I like it when it just works... no drivers to download? Plug and play. hot swappable.
Stop me if you've heard this before.

It's expensive? I take it you are broke. Get a job and join society.

Why all the venom, folks? Do you really hate it so much when someone gets excited about something? Is there NOTHING that you would really look forward to buying, or even wait in line for? If people have the money to buy the thing (not me; I'm going to wait a while), then why all the hate? The fact is that in a few years, university texts will be a thing of the past and students will be carrying around an iPad (or a similar device). Even if that becomes the only use for an iPad, wouldn't that be worth all the hype. Game changer? No doubt.

Maybe we'll eventually be 99% paperless between this and the competitors. I've been waiting for something like this but will probably wait for the 2nd or 3rd iteration. Looking forward to one since it's kinda hard to curl up on a couch with a laptop.

+1

There's simply no justification for the venom towards a little device that has never, ever been "for everyone" or "to replace" your laptops. The unvarnished hatred is, to me, no different than some j/er/k judging you for what car you drive.

Besides, should a fun, lightweight motorcycle really be judged (angrily) to the standards of people in work trucks? Because that's essentially what people are doing.

With all the media hype and free pub you'd think we live in the good ol' USA... the United States of Apple.
09:17 AM on 04/04/2010
To give Apple some credit, their iPod and iPhone did revolutionize the tech and entertainment fields.

I'm bitter. I pre-ordered an iPad, waited anxiously for UPS today...nothing. Checked the tracking and saw there was an error...I forgot to put my apartment # and so they couldn't deliver it. I have to wait until Monday to pick it up. I spent most of the day wailing.

Wasn't it supposed to be very cheap? It turned out to be another expensive toy.

For those who can't afford, or won't want to buy from apple, or want to buy but want to wait for the review first... maybe you can get one of this for the moment.
