Telegraph:

Blonde-haired women, who are often stereotyped as carefree and ditsy, earn seven per cent more than women with hair of other colours, researchers claim.

And in addition to their preferential pay packets blondes also marry wealthier men, who earn an average of six per cent more than the husbands of other women.

Natural blonde or any blonde? If it includes blonde by choice the result is not surprising.

Probably the same for blue eyes. HRC thought she was more electable with blue contacts (rather than her natural hazel-brown)...and she's no dummy.

Tall men are paid more than short men and a person who is attractive is paid more than a person who is not. So what else is new?

Maybe it's because blondes are only represented by whites, while people with dark hair include visible minorities, and statistically the minorities earn less than average. The article said that they removed factors such as height, weight, and education but it did not specify whether they removed racial factors. Some studies have proven that visible minorities often earn less than their white counterparts even when they have had same education. Therefore at least part of the reason could be racial/cultural issues rather than just about blondes looking "better" than other people.

Then please explain why in Africa one group of Black Africans will treat another group as less than themselves ie Tutsis vs Hutus? Do you think that their hair plays a part in their discrimination? I was a Black haired male who often found myself feeling as if I were an outsider. I often wondered why the myth was created about women wanting to find a Tall Dark handsome stranger? Where did that come from when in almost every Disney movie the heros were always Blonde guys. It seems to me that within the White culture as is also true within the Black Culture, that the lighter you are the more favorably people look upon you. But then we should ask ourselves who is it among us that does all this idolizing and pampering. Aren't we all guilty in some measure since by wanting to be like them we manage to diminish ourselves. All too often I see others around me who rather than like who they are would instead do their utmost to change their own looks in order to be like those who they often sit and idolize. I think we are all to some degree or another at fault.

I really don't think there is a preference for lighter features within groups of whites. If that were so, then why do the paler ones attempt to tan to emulate the olive-skinned whites?

It's obviously crucial to repeal human nature and make this preference for blondes illegal!

So non-blondes should invest $10 on dye and in theory they should get a $4,200 return. Sounds easy enough.

I didn't get that much, but I did get the job, better raises and was forgiven rather indulgently for really stupid mistakes. I only dyed my hair to get laid.

It seems to me as though we should be allowed to write off highlights as a legitimate business expense, now, actually...

If you are a self-employed and your income depends on your appearance models, actors, strippers etc I would consider it to be a legitimate business expense. Breast implants for stripers are certainly a business expense. The reason for the expense should be principly for business to take it as a business expense.

Paris Hilton can reasonably deduct the care of her chihuaha as a legitimate business expense as it is a part of her public image.

large sample, but they don't note where the 13,000 respondents were sampled from. Cultural context has to matter.
