John McCain: I'm NOT A Maverick -- Or Am I? (VIDEOS)

First Posted: 6/5/10   Updated: 5/25/11

John McCain, the maverick? Apparently not anymore.

"I never considered myself a maverick," McCain told Newsweek's David Margolick in an interview in which he seems to distance himself from his trademark moniker. "I consider myself a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities."

But as recently as last month, McCain's 2008 running mate, Sarah Palin, touted the Arizona senator's "maverick" status, referring to "McCain the Maverick" four times in 15 minutes at a campaign rally in Tuscon.

(The Newsweek piece, is ironically subtitled "A maverick fights for his political life--and his soul.")

Until now, McCain was never reluctant to embrace the "maverick" label. Here's a look at some of his past ads and appearances that tout his maverickiness:

He took advantage of his family connections to get preferential treatment in North Vietnam. Then he recorded propoganda for them.

I won't blame him for the choices he made to get through a situation I'm sure I can't even imagine. But to come home and let himself be billed as a war hero was not a forced choice.

It was despicable.

He is despicable.

McCain is losing his memory and possibly his mind.

John McCain's days of being a maverick ended the instant he browned his nose on George W. Bush's behind. What a shame he bartered his reputation (not to mention his principles) for a failed bid at the Presidency.

I'm to tired to be a maverick, or I don't care, I forget.

Still waiting for him to tell us how to catch Bin Laden, he said during the elections he knew how. Or was that only if he got elected? Very patriotic of him to withhold such information simply because he lost.

My favorite still has to be the "team of mavericks" line.

He lost his brand, lost his mind, turned his back on his own ideals. Sold out to the far right. He was NEVER any maverick, he was an opportunist with a catchy phrase. He is so feeble minded he can't remember his latest distortions. This man ran on a maverick brand, and his running mate ran on being rogue. It was not that long ago for memory to fail. Maybe Palin can catch him up to speed.
Clearly every lie is a vote against this man. We as a country WANT those in Washington to at least be honest. Don't see any honest conversation from Mac Cain or S Palin his lying side kick.
The deceit, lies and twisted reality is destroying this country. McCain want to lead the charge all so he can fail the president. He has sunk so low he has lost any credibility or respect he once had. There is NO moral code or honor in either McCain or Palin. He is acting like a silly old fool.

Sad to say, McCain's poll numbers in AZ are way up.

Arizonans aren't all that smart, really. I lived there for 13 years and it was a constant affront to my intelligence. Trouble is, they choose that,.and they don't seem to want to become better educated. Broad brush, yes, I know. But live there a while. You'll see. Dumb as stumps, most of them.

To see someone I would have voted for in 2000 fall so far from is vindication that the persistence of power and the mighty dollar is more of a driving force to change ones character than having bamboo stuck up you urethra in a POW camp.

He has never been a maverick. He has been occasionally principled, sometimes even working very hard for something he believes in. Here in SA, however, we know what a true maverick is -- a die hard liberal with a funny name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maury_Maverick,_Jr.

How do you know if someone is an elitist? Well, there's a mathematical formula. You are an elitist if you have at least two to five more houses you don't remember than the five planes you were permitted to crash when you were in the military, thanks to your admiral daddy's connections.
