In "taxachusetts" at least we don't have quite so many Americans dying without proper healthcare. I don't make a ton of money (have always worked in non-profit) but I am happy to pay a bit more so that those with less get a more equal chance to get a leg up.
I voted with enthusiasm for Duval but unlike with Obama, I cannot see what he HAS done. If I look hard enough, I can see that our President is working his ass off for us and TRYING...just has his hands tied and has had to comprimise too much. I think he's learning from his mistakes tho and I think in better times he'd come across as a very good President...just his little mistakes rub so raw, all are reported, all matter and all are bIgger now because of the economy and the wars and the sense of urgency and lack of safety people feel (about the environment too) now.
I do not have much of a sense of any good things that Patrick has done. I wonder if it's just an artifact because he hasn't come across effectively in the media, or if its real. I just don't have a good sense of him as a govenor or leader--and managing how he comes across of course is part of his job.,
Patrick had so much promise. I hope Obama doesn't waste time with this...it doesn't matter much nationally it seems to me.

Another one bites the dust in Taxachusetts? Oh, and by the way, Rachel Maddow wants you all to know she is not running for anything in Massachusetts. *wink, wink.

Obama is concerned about a DEMOCRAT INCUMBENT IN MASS? Things must really be looking ugly in those internal polls...

My God the ignorance. Before Patrick the last FOUR governors of Mass were Republicans. .

This really shouldn't be a problem for Deval Patrick. I think Obama's getting bad advice on the character of Massachusetts elections.

Scott Brown, like most Republicans that get elected in Mass, was a protest vote as well as a moderate. It wasn't a teabagger victory, and instead of trying to break the Scott Brown voodoo thing, it'd probably be better to leave Mass alone. At any rate, I also think that if Rahm Emanuel is giving Patrick the same bad advice he was giving Coakley ("Fly to DC and give the lobbyists handjobs under the table while ignoring your campaign and voters in a state that thrives on populist politics!") then the odds are worse, not better.

Rather than go and help Deval Patrick himself, Obama would be better served to help secure the services of Howard Dean for Deval Patrick. Just sayin'...

You tea bigot and tro//s need to work on your failed party and stop worrying about the dems. Only 26% want to be identified as republican. That is pretty sorry.

If you weren't worried about it you wouldn't need to tell Republicans not to :)

You do realize that the majority in the country don't want to be identified as Democrat based on your source.

You need a math class. See 36% is more than 26%. Next agenda in this country should be education reform.
03:35 PM on 04/05/2010
With Deval Patrick running against some guy named Chuck who was
previously an HMO executive and the state treasurer who was a Demo last
year & already has 'campaign irregularities', the incumbent's odds seem pretty good.

The whole idea that Massachusetts has gone red is a fallacy and a myth. It's elected Republicans before, they've been puddycats once in office, because they want to get re-elected. Why do you think Scott Brown's first vote jilted the teabaggers?

Obama oughta just chill or something. Bringing himself into these events, which means the mismanagement genius of Rahm Emanuel, master anti-strategist and all around miscaller and bungler, isn't necessary. If MA's democrats are really worried, they need to talk to Howard Dean.

And it's a complete myth that Massachusetts is liberal. It's much closer to the center than people in other states think.
06:54 PM on 04/05/2010
It will be pretty amusing if the 3 (or 4, or more?) contenders for the
MA governorship ALL turn into truck-drivin' studs overnight. If that
doesn't happen, it likely will be a very dull election. One can only hope.

The DLC is looking desperate, and stupid. They still think Scott Brown was a Republican win. Campaigning for Gov. Patrick will only take votes away. We like the gov better than the pres.

That's not what the republicans said when Brown voted for the jobs bill. The republicans left all kinds of threats on his facebook page.

I live in MA and Patrick is a good governor. Yes, he has has missteps, but overall, I think he is getting businesses back into MA.

how many governors go on a talk radio show for an hour, monthly, to take questions from residents? He does.

As a liberal from MA. I find it hilarious how the trolls refer to Patrick as being desperate. Quite honestyly Patrick is LUCKY. My impression is that the people here like the president ALOT more than the Governor. I worry more that Patrick is going to be an albatross around the neck of the president. I was really mad when it was clear the Dem's weren't gonna offer up a primary challenger to Patrick or he didnt simply drop out of the race. A democrat could have easily won the Governors race... but not this democrat.
02:21 PM on 04/05/2010
Agreed. Deval is tone deaf.....taxing beer...just plain stupid. He's toast. Soon he'll be able to spend more time in his princely castle out in Richmond.
02:14 PM on 04/05/2010
Massachusetts KNOWS they made a mistake with "centerfold" Brown .............. Let's hope they don't make another mistake with another lame, hypocritical rethug as Governor.

Gee - what happened to all that liberal "he won, get over it"?

Dimplesmile, I live in PA across the river from NJ. I'll give this NJ ReTHUGlipig Governor Christie one term before he's voted out of office 6 years from now. NJ is such a corrupt financial, political and tax-laden basket case that neither Democrat or ReTHUGlipig can easily govern it or fixed it. The voters of NJ go back and forth from one party to the next...as long as the new candidate. whether Dem or ReTHUG, tells the lemming sheeple of NJ exactly what they want to hear. This state cannot seem to ever keep a decent governor in office...one fiscal or moral corruption scandal after the other is the usual gubernatorial downfall. Christie will likely fare no better.

This just makes me even more suspicious that the Democrats deliberately threw Massachusetts under the bus.

Think about it:
1) One more Republican gives them the excuse to use reconciliation as in the past both Obama and Biden had said bad things about it. Now they could say 'well we had to, no super-majority'.

2)While Brown was a problem for health care (and has a strange obsession with Rachel Maddow) he is not a lock-step party puppet. At least, he doesn't appear to be so far, having voted with the Democrats on a jobs bill.

It just appears to me that from this, if Obama really wanted someone to have a seat, he'd bust his @ss to get one for them. That's why I don't think the Democrats really cared about Massachusetts or Blanche Lincoln. Perhaps it was sacrificing a pawn to get at a rook.

You give them far too much credit. I think Democrats just took it for granted that it was likely a Democrat would be elected in Massachusetts. But they ran a very weak candidate, and Scott Brown campaigned hard to bring out voters.

"
Patrick, meanwhile, stumbled through controversy during a rough first year and has been forced to make unpopular decisions to maintain a balanced budget in tough economic times. One of the issues he’s being hammered on this year is not making good on his campaign promise to lower property taxes."

Isn't every governor in the US facing the same crisis? Even Republican ones?

This Politico article was pretty light on facts.
