Video: U.S. Consulate Attack In Pakistan

Pakistani television has aired footage of the attack on a U.S. consulate in Northwest Pakistan that took place Monday, leaving at least 3 dead.

The raw footage, from GEO TV, shows one of the explosions near the consulate. The attackers, identified by the AP as Islamist militants, used a combination of car bombs and grenades in the attack. Just hours earlier over three dozen people were killed in a suicide attack at a political rally in the region.

The New York Times' Robert Mackey observes that attacks such as the one this morning have become so routine in the area that "at one stage, as images of the latest attack were broadcast, the crawl at the bottom of the screen gave updates on a celebrity drama, the planned marriage of a Pakistani cricket star, Shoaib Malik, to an Indian tennis player, Sania Mirza."
