Texans could begin registering for "Texas Powerful Smart" on Wednesday, a Texas appliance rebate program as a result of federal funding.

Texas received $23 million from the federal government as part of the $300 million stimulus program.

The Texas appliance rebate program applies to any refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dish washers, and room air conditioners that have an energy star logo. It lasts from April 16 to April 25.

The Texas Powerful Smart Web site has experienced server issues today as Texans all tried to register for the program at once. The following notice was posted on the site:

We are experiencing high volume. $17,638,700 IN REBATES ARE STILL AVAILABLE.
As of 11 a.m. CT, the Web reservation system continues to be temporarily unavailable.

Those who have yet to get their rebates are encouraged to keep trying. You can also get your rebate by calling (877) 780-3039.

Texas Powerful Smart is also posting status updates on Twitter.

Ohio began a similar appliance rebate program last month.
