Cupcakes At The Met? Museum To Sell Sweets After Hot Dog Crackdown

The Parks Department has come up with an antidote to the unauthorized vendors who've killed its once-lucrative hot dog business in front of the Metropolitan Museum -- cupcakes.

In the first deals of their kind, Queens-based Culinary Engineers, Inc. has won two separate permits to peddle the yummy confections on city property, one on the north side of the steps in front of the Met Museum and another in Washington Square Park.

I didn't even know there were hot dogs at The Met. I thought only hot dogs venders outside were selling them. Boy are Americans can't get enough of their heart disease saturated filled dogs.

Oops, you didn't read past the headline. The article states "in front of" and "north side of the steps" and AT the Met few times throughout. So, no, there was never any selling of hot dogs IN the Met; rather, the vendors are at the very bottom of the grand steps right next to the occasional entertainer working for tips.

Dining at the Met is upscale, even in the two smaller bistros. If you go, I recommend the Petrie Cafe. Their wine bar is fabulous.
