America's Children Vote For Barbie To Become An Anchorwoman

wsj.com:

The WSJ reports that "Barbie's maker, Mattel Inc., thought it would be interesting to ask young girls who visited the Barbie.com Web site to vote on what the doll's next career should be. Mattel gave them a choice of architect, anchorwoman, computer engineer, environmentalist and surgeon. All told, more than 600,000 votes were cast during a four-week period this past winter."

I suppose any little girl who is a Barbie fan has internalized the ideal of skinny women with weirdly shaped huge breasts and no pubic or other body hair so anchorwoman makes sense as a choice.
It requires only the ability to read the teleprompter and the willingness to change their appearance to whatever the network standard of the moment is and they get get paid in the six figures on the larger stations.

It is not surprising that they would choose a career that involves the fabled boob tube. In fact, it is sad indeed as TV anchors are simply talking heads that are worlds removed from the self-proclaimed "journalists" that they pretend to be.

IMO, you can equate the invention and widespread adoption of television with the end of enlightenment.

Looks just like all the fluffer girls on Faux Noise, even the part where Barbie can't speak.
