The flailing and deflecting and blaming occurring at the highest levels of the church are downright disgr@ceful. For goodness' sake, own up to what you did, apologize, and make amends. There is no other possible response.

First, criticism of the church is compared to anti-Sem!t!sm and the H0l0c@ust; and now the traditional scapegoats of the C@th0l!c church are blamed for the criticism. WWJ think!

Bishop Babini is in his 80s and still holds on to the belief that the Jews are responsible for everything that is wrong in the world. People at this stage in life feel that they have the right to say whatever and do not even think of the consequences.
I agree with many of the others who posted comments here that the Catholic Church will never own up to the abuse in the church which was and might still be rampant.
Then again, it happens within other religions, too.

*All* organized religions require humans to give up their precious free will and autonomy and accept some other flawed human's authority about an issue that touches the very deepest depths of what it means to be human -- spirituality. While humanity is, and always has been, in need of guidance and direction, each of us must undertake our spiritual quest for ourselves. Whether it leads to atheism or faith, it must be an answer that we individually and personally sought and attained. Otherwise, we're just dealing in false coin, parroting other (wo)men's answers.

Not to pick nits or anything here, but please note that all Muslims of Arab descent, at least, are Semites (the children of Shem, according to that book of myths and legends we know as the bible). Therefore they are *incapable,* by definition, of being "anti-Semites."

Moreover, taking issue with the actions of the State of Israel are not at all the same thing as h8ing Jews. While many Jews are Israeli citizens, and almost all Israelis are Jews, "Israelis" and "Jews" are not fungible.

Not to be nit picky, either, but the definition of antisemitism is prejudice against or hostility towards Jews, often rooted in hatred of their ethnic background, culture, and/or religion. It was coined by Wilhelm Marr in 1881 to specifically mean "Jew Hatred".

I am really surprise that people here are so naive to think that the pope or the Catholic Authority in Rome will take some blame & responsibilities here.

I was a Catholic and all Catholic knows and had been taught that, the Pope is "infallible". The Pope's "infallibility" is very core to the existence and beliefs system of the Church. Asking the Church to take some blames/responsibilities strikes at this core belief system & teachings of the Church and I have serious doubts that it is going to happen.

We were also taught not to look at the Pope as human, he is divide and above us mortals, he is Christ's representative on earth; he replaces Peter and as Jesus told Peter when he was about to ascend into Heaven..."Peter..Peter...you are the Rock and upon this Rock, I will build my church & the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". The Church refer to above is not a physical building somewhere, but a spiritual representation of access to God Almighty and we were taught to see the Pope as the embodiment of that Prophecy.

The Church Authorities (Physical) will make amends, issue new directives on how to handle reported cases, might improve cooperation with local enforcement agency, but accepting responsibility is not going to happen.

The fault, the blame, the responsibility is always going to be pointed at something else.

I remember being taught that bs as a child myself. As an adult I now realize that it's all politics. I have since left the catholic church. They are probably the most hypocritical institution in the world, and has given the really decent, spiritual members a bad name.
I would hope that people will differentiate between the good and the bad that is the Catholic Church.
It's time they fess up and pay the price for their heinous behaviour. It's not just about compensation, but admitting and apologizing for what was done to innocent children and their cover up of same. This could have been avoided if they had acted in an honest, mature manner and kicked these pedophiles out of the Church when they first learned about it instead of parsing them off to other parishes to continue their abuse.

This is exactly the same bogus charge the Church harbored about a decade when the first inkling of a scandal began to unravel in the US. The Vatican would simply whisper that it was those Jews from the media that was causing the scandal (not the Churches own misdeeds and coverups). Too bad the scandal is now coming out of Europe, too, including countries like Ireland where there are hardly massive numbers of Jews running the media there to conveniently blame for the sins of the Fathers.
