social, I think bright pink shoes would have cheapened the outfit. I like the pale pink as they are in the same shade only pale.

I would also like to add, that while monarchies aren't elected..they have Prime Ministers whom the people elect. Royal Families do not have any input on how the government runs. They have to make decisions on issues such as same-sex marriage, abortion, euthanasia...but they don't interfere with how Prime Ministers and governments run the countries. They are not allowed to do that. The emperor of Japan doesn't have any role in the government at all. And yet the Japanese royal family is extremely popular.

The royal families only help out by going on State and Official visits to other countries, in Summits, conferences about issues like children, domestic abuse, human rights, etc. They don't rule the country as a whole. They get a fixed budget from the government, like an annual salary.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip each attended more than 200 events last year, be it State visits, charity events, etc. They are in their 80s and they still have to work for their countries. That's sadder than most citizens who can retire at the age of 65. Royals have to serve their countries until they die. They can't "undo" being royals either, unless they do something scandalous that would make the government remove them from the royal line-up. The government even have to approve their future spouses. If they don't approve, they can't marry. Of course, they live privileged lifestyles, but I don't think it's all fun and games.

nashnash aside from the fact that those very old countries rich in history and always with a Monarchy, well almost. And in truth though it's not our business as Americans on putting down how they govern as long as it's not a dictator.

In GB the royals bring in much needed tourist dollar and they are very much aware of it.

I shall always be in favor of a republican form of government!

That said, while no great beauty, the lady exudes class -- rather like Jacqueline Kennedy.

I like good looking women. Better still, give my a good looking, classy dame, any day!

Is it that difficult for Americans in public life to look that good, She does set a standard worth repeating. I would like to see more American women make the effort.

Fun facts about the Spanish Royal family : Is the close relationship the Spanish crown had with the former Spanish Dictator Franco ( a compatriot of Adolf Hitler ) whose list of crimes and human rights abuses is a mile long. The only reason there still is a Spanish royal family is because they cooperated with Franco study a little history and the the Spanish royal family becomes much less charming ...

More Fun Facts about the Spanish Royal Family: Juan Carlos(The King of Spain) was officially designated heir and was given the new title of Prince of Spain by Franco. After Franco's death he quickly instituted reforms, to the great displeasure of Falangist and conservative (monarchist) elements, especially in the military, who had expected him to maintain the authoritarian state and successfully oversaw the transition of Spain from dictatorship to parliamentary democracy. And this without mentioning his behaviour on the 23-F attempted military coup which made even Santiago Carrillo(a very important communist leader in Spain) say on TV: "God save the King." and "Today, we are all monarchists."

If that works for you and makes you feel better go right ahead . I judge people who cooperated with Franco by what they did during the regime not after. A few right actions don't excuse decades of crimes ....

Form your post its obvious that the royal PR campaign is delivering the message. I work with a lot of Brits and I have noticed that support for the monarchy among younger Brits I work is much less then with older ( 40+ ) ones ... But for full disclosure I worked on a offshore wind farm project who biggest investor was the royal family so maybe its a sign that they realize that won't always be on the public dole..

Wrong. Juan Carlos is revered in Spain for bringing them the democracy they enjoy now. At first, Juan Carlos was trained to follow on Franco's steps (at least that was the condition that Franco made when he decided to re-instate the royal family, provided that Juan Carlos would be the King after Franco and Juan Carlos's father gave up his rights to the throne, as Franco wanted Juan Carlos to continue his work). But Juan Carlos didn't continue Franco's dictatorship.

Ask the Spaniards and they would tell you...if it weren't for Juan Carlos, they would still be under a dictatorship.

Ask the Basques about democracy and freedom in Spain .... It might have gotten better in Spain after Franco but it didn't get that good. And as for the Spanish royal family's behavior during the Franco years .... please make all the excuses you want it doesn't change history.

My first reaction was, who is this woman and why should we care?

My second--upon learning that she is part of some 'royal' family was, isn't it time that we did away with this antiquated and classist construct called "Royalty?"

I know there are many people born who just can't wait to get down on their knees to anything put up in front of them that they are told is bigger, richer, smarter, stronger, better, somehow.

Does anyone here, besides myself, see that as contributing to the ongoing subjugation of 98% of the world's peoples by an elite 2%.

End Royalty, end Monarchy. Let's all move from the age of the Caesars into a real age of reason.

This seems hung up, I'll try once more--

Pssst...did you Read my post? By holding these pretenders to genetic superiority up for acclaim, you enable the system that allows them to continue their systematic abuses of large parts of the globe.

So I ask, If they found a picture of a well dressed dictator, mass murderer, or Marie Antoinette, would we be so quick to offer our praise, or would it be tempered with a little logic?

And for the poster who said that so many European countries have royalty that the people seem to love--well, slavery was once legal and accepted. And Stockholm syndrome accounts for kidnap victims, abused children and even entire countries in the case of the third reich, claiming love and support for their Captors. Just proves that people can get accustomed to almost anything.

It’s a nice outfit but honestly I don’t get this left leaning publication’s recent obsession with royalty. It makes no sense. Princes and princesses= people on pricy welfare/living off tax money because of a birthright. Very outdated.
