Geithner Jokes: I'm Doing My Taxes 'Slightly Differently' This Year (VIDEO)

Speaking at the American Society of Newspaper Editors earlier today in Washington D.C., Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was asked whether or not he'll be taking a different approach to filing his taxes this year.

You'll recall that Geithner ran into a bit of trouble during his confirmation last year, when it was revealed that he hadn't paid thousands of dollars in taxes during his time working for the International Monetary Fund. (Geithner later said he'd filed his own taxes using TurboTax software.)

"Thanks for raising that issue," Geithner joked at the ASNE event.

This year, Geithner said, he has "an excellent accountant."

"I had an accountant then too," he added. "But I like my accountant now."

Yep, that was my first big Obama wake up call. It's only gotten worse and worse. I think he is setting up a false flag attack with all his "nuke" talk. I was a democrat, now a birther and conspiracy fact analyst. There is a reason for the massive cover up on the original, Dr. signed certificate. Cover ups are unnecessary when there is no crime.

Why? Is it because you believed rumors and insinuation that not only could not be substantiated but that proved to be totally untrue? Did you bother to even watch the hearing regarding the AIG emails where the only smoking gun was aimed directly at Congress and more or less proved that Geithner did what he legally was bound to do and that he wasn't even a major player. Congress on the other hand by failing to enact laws that would have given authority for the orderly winding down of a company that would have taken down the entire economy didn't look so good. We are either a nation of laws or we are not. Hating someone for following the law of the land means you are just looking for a scapegoat for your hate.

Making an error on your taxes isn't cheating, My tax return looks like the telephone book and my CPA who in his misspent youth was an IRS auditor has in the past made unintended errors because the tax laws have become so complex and are forever changing. Obviously, you aren't a tax attorney or you would know that unintended errors can be made on simple tax returns and are likely on complex tax returns which neither reflects incompetence nor an intent to defraud the government.

like the unintended error of using turbo tax when any rational person would know that the software wasn't designed for someone in his position? Like the error of not understanding exactly what the IMF meant when they told him and he acknowledged that his car service was a taxable event?

There is no indication that Geithner had any intention for defrauding the government. The error that he made was made by virtually everyone that worked for that particular organization. They all falsely assumed that the taxes had been withheld and paid when they had not. If you received an inaccurate W-2 and didn't know it was inaccurate does that make you a tax cheat.

It is an insult that the liberal community allows Timmy Busmeat Geithner to getaway with nonpayment of his tax by using a glib argument of I didn't like my accountant.
The schmuck does not like to pay tax for the social support system that is there to backstop Americans in need.
that is the issue with Busmeat he is a tax evader in the spot of top tax enforcer. too bad that irony is lost on the press with a a joke that was too cute by half.
