Democrats pulled ahead of Republicans on a generic congressional ballot -- 50 percent to 46 percent -- a new CNN/Opinion Research Poll released Tuesday shows.

A Gallup poll released earlier on Tuesday, however, showed Republicans leading Democrats by the same margin, 48 percent to 44 percent.

According to CNN's polling data, Democrats trailed Republicans in a generic ballot two weeks ago, 45 percent to 49 percent.

The Gallup poll from the same period showed Democrats behind Republicans, 44 percent to 47 percent.

The polls reached different conclusions the week before, however, with the CNN poll from March 19-21 showing trailing 45 percent to 48 percent and the Gallup poll from March 21 showing Democrats leading 47 percent to 45 percent.
