Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl may return to the bench as early as the second round of the NBA playoffs.
Karl's doctor, Dr. Jacques Sarri, puts the odds at "two-thirds" that he'd be back coaching soon, and noted that his treatment for squamous cell head/neck cancer has been "very positive." Tempering this outlook however, Sarri told NBA Fanhouse "there is a 15 percent chance his cancer may come back after two years."
ESPN notes the two-thirds estimate is a rough figure, and either way, Karl needs his rest.
The Nuggets released a statement on April 7 saying that Karl had completed his second round of chemotherapy treatment, which Karl noted were the "toughest of [his] life."
Assistant coach Adrian Dantley has been coaching in Karl's absence.
