Crystal Renn--looking adorable in flannel and glasses--discusses her childhood in Miami ("I was into karate and did that for competition") and Mississippi, where her mother signed her up for beauty school "because I was anti-beauty school." One day a scout was there, and he told her "'You're going to be a supermodel...but you have to lose 9 inches off of your hips.' So I thought, I'll do anything. I basically was risking my life. I put my body through hell." What followed was an eating disorder and treatment.
Now, of course, Renn is one of the world's most famous plus-size models, which, as she points out, just "means you're above a [size] 6."
