FoxNews.com Blocked On Navy Computers, Then Restored

FoxNews.com was blocked on US Navy computers for several hours Friday in what the Navy is calling a technical error.

FoxNews.com blasted an announcement Friday morning saying that Navy personnel were unable to access the website due to security issues; when they attempted to log on, they received the following message:

"Access to this site has been denied in accordance with Navy policy to safeguard the security posture and/or to maintain the operational integrity of the NMCI [Navy Marine Corps Internet]."

The situation — which prevented Navy personnel from accessing several other websites as well — was resolved late Friday morning, but the Navy says it was a technical error and not a statement about Fox News.

"This was not a policy issue," Navy spokesman Cdr. Danny Hernandez said, though he was unable to provide any specific reason for the glitch.

"It appears to be some problem with the network," Navy spokesman Lt. Justin Cole told FoxNews.com. "From time to time, there are security issues that make sites go up or down according to the policy. I'm not sure what the cause of this outage is."
