Jackson Browne VIDEO: Talks Sushi, Sharks And Plastic

Did you know that Jackson Browne is thinking about becoming a vegetarian, with the exception of some Iberian ham? That's what he told HuffPost in this exclusive video filmed in the Galapagos during the Mission Blue conference. To help fulfill 2009 TED Prize winner Sylvia Earle's wish to create a global network of marine protected areas, TED held a five-day conference bringing together scientists, leaders, artists, concerned citizens and philanthropists to educate them about the problems facing our oceans and develop concrete solutions and plans of action.

WATCH Browne discuss visiting one of the most beautiful places he's ever seen, what he got out of the conference, and the problems he's going to have in sushi restaurants going forward.

There's enough pollution in the world. Whenever anyone puts him down I just put on my oxygen mask. On a relating to the interesting story note, my daughter and I studied both the Galapagos Islands and Dr. Earle when she was in elementary school in the 1990's. We made frequent visits to the New England Aquarium while she was growing up and she wanted to learn more about penguins. Our focus became primarily on the Galapagos penguins. I believe they are now endangered. A year or so later she wanted to learn about whales and was required to pick a scientist which led us to Dr. Earle. As part of the project we simply had students sit inside a large decorated like the ocean cardboard box and space out to whale sounds. Can't wait for his new CD and tour!

One of the best things we can do for our oceans is to stop using plastics. All plastic. At the slightest temp. increase toxins are leached into the contents plastics are holding, xenoestrogens, pcbs, etc. That "purified" or "spring" water you're drinking has is really not clean.

Most plastic is thrown out, not reused and if it ends up in the ocean it just breaks down into smaller particles, never really degrading.

Plastic = Dead

JB has been my favorite artist for the last 30 years. He was socially conscientious before it was cool and that bit seems not to have changed. And yes he is still mightily swoonable. I wish him the best.

Jackson Browne lost me YEARS AGO with the revelation that he beat then-girlfriend Darryl Hannah to such a degree that her friends feared for her life. Include John Kenndy, Jr., her ex who traveled to California to take her away to safety.

I don't think you know the whole story. It was *Jackson* who called the police that night. (This is well known and documented by police logs.) There was an argument, but it was Darryl who was acting in a very dangerous way. (Can we leave it at that?)

The real story is that Jackson is such a considerate person that he didn't want to let an embarrassing story damage Hannah's career at an important time for her. So he chose to just keep mum, and let his rep take the hit.

For the record, Hannah later recanted and stated on the record that Jackson never hit her. This is also documented. Just Google around.

Don't believe everything you read in People magazine. The more salacious the story, the better it sells. This story never was all that.

Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

There was a domstic dispute and police were called but there was no assault whatsoever. The trumped-up story that Jackson Browne had beat Daryl Hannah was fabricated and promoted by the tabloids to sell papers and unfortunately some of the mainstream media picked it up as fact.

Here is a statement made by Lt. John Miehle of the Santa Monica Police Department in November 1992:

"The Santa Monica Police Department went to the house where Jackson Browne lives regarding a possible disturbance. We resolved the situation in about five minutes. There was never any assault. There are no charges pending and no prosecution sought by or intended by the District Attorney. It is this department's intention that no citizen, regardless of who she is, suffer any kind of abuse, whether it be domestic violence or any other kind of assault. But in this case, absolutely no assault occurred. Our investigators tell us nothing happened. Nobody has even alleged that Daryl Hannah was even touched. If they had, we'd be investigating. We're not hiding anything. The press is trying to make more out of this than there really is, and it's unfair, not just to Browne, but to us. We did our job, and repeat, no crime occurred here. This whole thing is ridiculous."
