News Reporters Unable To Pronounce Eyjafjallajökull (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/19/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:10 PM ET

Eyjafjallajökull. That's hard to type, never mind pronounce. That in mind, we can't help but sympathize with these news reporters having a little trouble getting the name of the Icelandic volcano to roll off their tongues. You can only imagine their fright as Eyjafjallajökull came scrolling up on that teleprompter. (via Urlesque)

Yeah but, maybe they could practice (the job) while they're sitting in their make-up chairs instead of texting gossip; I'm embarrassed by newscasters who don't take what they're doing seriously-why not wear a t-shirt and jeans if world news is so funny?

All our news reporters simply refer to it as "the icelandic volcano". Well played, Hillary Barry, well played.

Gee, I thought all those sounded pretty good.

FIRST, THERE WAS AHMADINEJAD
THEN, THERE WAS BLAGOJEVICH

I recently had lunch with an Icelandic gent... nice fellow. He pronounced English words kind of funny, too. Trust me, a lot of reporters have as much trouble with other foreign names and phrases. "Ahmadinejead" anyone? "Eyjafjallajökull" is quite a mouthful, and who outside of Iceland would guess that the double-L is pronounced as if the first L were a D?

This sucks. We need to have our volcanoes in more pronounceable places.

That explain why they been using "That Volcano" a lot on TV instead of the name!

Garrison Keilor had a hilarious Guy Noir segment on last Saturday's Prairie Home Companion, where he had various 'celebrities' attempt to pronounce the name of the volcano. Obama was able to get it right, while Dubya was reduced to the level of a babbling toddler...

Upon hearing this story I wondered who would say it better if they had to address it in a news conference: Bush, Palin, Obama, Cheney? I went with Obama for obvious reasons. Palin should be able to say it given her communications degree, but I doubt it; Bush...well, I think we all know what the outcome of that would be.........and Cheney?? He would not be saying it at all because he does not give a damn about anything other than himself and bashing Obama!

I'm sorry I missed Garrison on this one; do you think clips of some sort can be heard online?
