Even if you're not originally from Chicago, coughing up several dollars to plow through endless cornfields to get across Illinois doesn't seem like such a great value. The more it costs, the less appetizing the tollways look. Crain's reported Monday that Illinois State Toll Highway Authority officials are at least talking in the corners about raising tolls. Before they do, they need to convince drivers why we should dig out more change.
"I'm not sitting here today saying we're going to raise tolls," Crain's quoted Board Chairwoman Paula Wolff as saying. "But you can't be thinking about the future of the system without thinking about where the revenues are going to come from."
