Volcanic Ash PHOTOS: Incredible Images Of Eyjafjallajokull Volcano Eruption

First Posted: 06/19/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:10 PM ET

A cloud of volcanic matter has risen over much of Europe from the erupting Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. A major eruption occured on April 14, 2010, resulting in a plume of volcanic ash being thrown into the atmosphere. Air traffic has been subject to cancellation or delays as airspace across parts of Northern Europe has been closed.

Below, some of the most powerful photos of the eruption.

Thanks to everyone who provided links to the other pics! The power of nature is truly astounding.

People like to pretend we can control everything. Nature shows us otherwise very dramatically!

The president of Iceland warned of Katla erupting yesterday. There are major tremors going on at Eyjafjallajokull today, which are more pronounced than before it erupted last week. This is serious and threats remain, despite the reassurances from the airlines and a complacent media.

Thanks.

This volcanic system is believed to cause the plague in the Middle Ages.

What would be truly impressive if anyone could properly pronounce this volcano's nutty name...

I think the DOD is already working on this. But it's super secret.
After the "reveal" we'll all feel better about how the money was spent, knowing we have an awesome Mega Maid that can clean up the atmosphere and swat missiles. Something for everyone!

My daughter flew to London, flight no. BA303 from JFK to Heaththrow airport on April 14th at 9:00P.M. New York time which was 2:00 A.M London time April 15. I believe the airline knew of the volcano eruption and yet flew into London jeopardizing the passengers' lives. Today my daughter was supposed to be home but she has no idea when she'll be able to fly back home. I'd like to know if British Airways should be held liable for this irresponsible act. If anyone has any information on flight BA303 from JFK to Heaththow Airport on April 14th, kindly post your comments.
Thank You,

Since Eurocontrol, those that are responsible and the authority for air traffic safety here in Europe, you can forget to hold BA liable for anything. They will argue that air-traffic control said flying on April 14th was safe because the volcano ash was not spread across europe by April 14th yet.
