Evo Morales Warns Chicken Can Ruin Hair, Virility

04/20/10 04:44 PM ET   AP

Bolivia Climate Conference

TIQUIPAYA, Bolivia — Bolivian President Evo Morales said Tuesday that men should stay away from chicken if they want to maintain their hair and virility.

Morales told an environmental conference that chicken producers inject the birds with female hormones "and because of that, men who consume them have problems being men." He also suggested eating too much chicken for too long could make men go bald.

Morales' warning may be out of date: Chicken producers in Europe, the United States and many other countries say they abandoned the use of hormones in poultry several decades ago and many if not most Western nations ban them outright.

The president also blasted Coca-Cola, saying, "It is harmful. ... Imagine what it contains."

Morales blamed "the west," a reference to industrial countries such as the U.S., which he said "bring us more and more poison."

The secret ingredient in Coca-Cola is widely rumored to be something Morales himself once grew as leader of a coca-producers union – a version of the plant with the psychoactive substances removed.

Whatever dude. Anything you can say I heard already. Born and raised in Cuba. That's Latin America's story: incompetent, uneducated or corrupt (sometimes all three) leaders and every problems is the USA's fault. Good luck with that mentality.

Meanwhile, here in the U.S. a Nevada Senatorial candidate is proposing we barter with doctors and pay with chickens...

The biggest problem in Latin America is poverty. This poverty has existed long before the Castros ,Chavez or Morales. This poverty is maintained through manipulation of governments and exploitation of resources and labor.Go ahead and make fun of Evo's hair. It's traditional Bolivian.Make fun of Chavez's leadership style. He was born a poor mestizo Venezuelan who worked his way up to colonel in the paratroopers. They have dark skin and speak Spanish. I don't have a problem with that. They are elected on mandates of hope and change for the poor.I don't have a problem with that either.I don't care if you call me a fool because I know what I know and I know who I am.If the US empire actually brought prosperity and liberty to the countries it exploits I would consider it on it's merit. So far I don't see any.

From the Wikipedia article on him, Morales apparently has no problem fathering children on assorted women but is very reluctant to support said offspring, a real nice guy----------NOT.

You've got to admit the guy has a nice full head of hair.

About U.S. poultry producers banning hormones. There's a laundry list of industry practices that have been banned in the U.S. but the same companies openly continue them in 3rd world countries. Is this one of them?

As a health-minded person, I have to agree with everything that Evo Morales said there.

Seriously, HuffPo. Why the hit piece?

Everything from the story to the picture is designed to make Morales look bad. Why?

Payback for daring to have diplomatic relations with Iran, and for bucking the World Bank and friends. It's the same corporate media treatment that Hugo Chavez gets. Morales also mentioned that Coca-Cola is only good as a drain cleaner. That won't win him friends with the media.

Bolivia currently sits on the world's largest Lithium reserves.

Lithium is the new oil. It will be used to make the batteries that will power all the new cars and such. It has been called the middle east of lithium reserves.

Evo Morales is the first indigenous leader elected in the world. He rose from the ranks of his own people and they elected him to serve their needs, not corporate America.

The lithium, and the fact that Evo Morales will not take his orders from Washington are the exact reasons why Bolivia will forever be demonized in the US media.

It's a shame really. There's a lot to learn there...

This is just another attack on Evo Morales and the Bolivian people. Any way they can be demonized...

Of all that could be said about this man and what he is doing for his people and country and they choose to put this tripe out there.

It really says a lot...

As a gay man of Indigenous heritage, and someone who admires the leadership of Morales in Bolivia and the world, I believe that there is a misunderstanding of his words perhaps caused by bad intentions from those who are changing the context of his words.

President Morales did not say the words “homosexuality” or “gay”. He was referring to the effects that hormones have on men bodies, period.

Morales was referring to the destructive ways of living that we humans, especially in “developed” societies, have embarked. This was said in a conference about climate change and the future of humankind.

When we criticize Morales as a leader, we need to see his record. What Evo Morales is doing to make Bolivia an inclusive society based on equality and diversity, and to protect our planet and Mother Earth from destruction.

Any endocrine disruptors be it artificial hormones or toxins, has the potential to cause hair loss.

I have recently visited an endocrinologist and was told to never consume meats/dairy that add artificial growth hormones.
Also, pesticides in foods can disrupt the endocrine system too.
Eat REAL whole organic foods!
