This development is giving me vertigo. Much as I despise her, Lincoln is now on the side of stricter regulation of derivatives, which the author of this article rightly says is "to the left" of Dodd's bill and the President's preference. As far as I know, this is the only time Lincoln has been right in a controversy with her own party! Dodd and Lincoln are both on their way out. So Dodd, the reliable progressive most of the time, is now resisting Lincoln's progressive position, while Lincoln, the notorious Blue Dog, is fighting Dodd's anti-progressive resistance! What next?

Several online news publications have pointed out that their is nothing truly progressive about Lincoln's legislative proposal concerning derivatives. Take this one, for eaxmple: http://news.firedoglake.com/2010/04/15/the-curious-case-of-blanche-lincoln-and-derivatives-trading/

Republican strategy the moment The President beat Hillary..
Plan A
1 - step up attacks about association of him having ter.ror.rists pals
2 - step up attacks of the (IST'S) ..marx ..social and so on
3 - use the term ''radical'' in every sentence every minute of every hour of every day
4 - slash and burn the economy as much possible
5 - LIE (entailing all of the above)

Republican strategy the moment The President took office
Plan B
1- step up attacks that he was soft on ter.ror.rists
2- Step up attacks that the Governement is taking over everything
3 - Complain that too much money is being spent ignoring the recent history or reasons why
4- hold up ALL procedures and votes and installation of department heads (PARALYZING GOVT.)
5 - LIE (for all of the above )

Republican strategy now and beyond
Plan C
1- say NO
2- welcome Joe Lieberman
3 - promise blue dog democrats ANYTHING to break with the President and split the party for a victory in Novemeber - take power -and claim to solve everything

Continuing the cycle of h8 and a two tier society with the backing of a right leaning SCOTUS...

Come November will be Progressives' chance to stop it.

Regards,
An Irish Lad

While no fan of Lincoln for her obstructionist role in health care reform, Dodd should be open to her proposals for regulating derivatives. I'm especially pleased to see that Maria Cantwell, my Senator, has forcefully thrown her support behind Lincoln's measure. We can't do what we did with Health Care reform and water down financial reform. Let's get this one right!

"I'm not a member of a organized political party. I'm a Democrat". - Will Rogers.

Truer words were never spoken. What is it with these dummies? Why is it they can't get their act together and pass something with teeth? If Obama and the Dems sell out on this one, they'll go down in flames, and as far as I'm concerned, they'll deserve it. I say go after these crooks in a big way. Dare the GOP to line up with Goldman, Citibank and JP Morgan. Make my day. . .

She's right on this one. I may have disagreed with her on health care reform, but she is absolutely right to include strong regulation of derivatives.

This is what is wrong with the country. Everyone reacts before they think or research anything!! I have alot of disgust for Sen. Lincoln over healthcare, but in this case she is onto something. These wacky derivatives are like some mystical menace and she wants them out in the light. Please research before you react!!! This finance reform is sorely lacking and the large banks should be broken up.

Historically agricultural products have been the most commonly traded products on the futures markets, so the Ag Committee was given jurisdiction over all futures trading including metals, oil and most recently derivatives, which are a type of futures contract. That is why hey have jurisdiction, but as you say it doesn't make any sense.
