Tyra Banks Show: Mother Spends $80,000 On Kids' Beauty Treatments (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/23/2010 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 4:15 pm

On yesterday's "Tyra," Miss Banks talked to mothers who spend thousands of dollars on their children's beauty treaments. One mom estimated she's shelled out over $80,000 on her daughter and son's manicures, facials and pedicures, remarking, "They love it. They can't go without it. I feel we're in a time now where beauty is everything." She even examines her daughter's nails before she goes off to school.

Ok so she won't leave the house with a chipped nail but she'll leave the house with an ugly soul eh?

I am all for people doing what makes them happy and I think this woman should do what makes HER happy but she needs to consider what would happen if the ABILITY of spending 80k on her kid's beauty maintenance should vanish. She has indoctrinated these kids into her neurosis. And it is now theirs too...until they leave home.

Not only that but if it were me I would spend 80k on EXPERIENCES that would leave a positive indelible imprint on my child's psyche and spirit. Spirit goes a lot further than skin.

$80,000? That would pay for some serious schooling. It's fun to do something like that as a treat or even do a little spa scene at home, but all the time? And now the kid won't leave the house with chipped polish?

Remember, friends: They hate us for our freedom.

(It's not possible that they hate us for making deals with the ultra-rich who sell off oil in their own countries to make themselves even more ultra-rich, while the common citizen wonders how many more times the electricity will go out and the food will spoil, or when they'll be able to afford something other than a dirt floor. They don't hate us for the overaffluence of a society where a woman can spend tens of thousand of dollars on beauty treatments for children. Nope. It's the freedom.)

That poor woman is so far past her sell-by date. you can see her inner panic: she keeps spending money on third-rate surgery, and all she's got to show for it is lumpy lips and a stripper chest. Nothing is getting better, the mirror that she worships shows her daily the cruel facts of aging. She's starting to look like Angelyne. The only youth available to her is that of her kids, so she's warped her failed "preservation" efforts onto them. To their credit they looked like they could not wait to get free of Mommie Weirdest.

And that my friends, is a good example why therapists are currently needed in our society.

I don't begrudge this woman her wealth; however, what upsets me are the lessons she's imparting to these small children. If these kiddies are getting superficial beauty treatments at this age, I see a psychiatrist couch in their futures because they will never be handsome/pretty enough as they grow older. The mother has a clear problem with projection here and seems to be living out her youth through these kids. She needs a shrink PDQ!

Nouveau riche. And they're ignorant as to how to manage their money. No equity.

In the past, a friend has worked for one of the wealthiest families in the country. They removed most of the mirrors from their houses because they were afraid their children would become too vain and be inculcated with the wrong values. These are people with real class as opposed to this woman who will NEVER have class no matter how rich she becomes.
