Obama Delivers 2010 Election Pitch On YouTube: 'I Need Your Help'

AP/Huffington Post   First Posted: 06/26/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:15 PM ET

Desperate to curtail expected widespread losses this fall, President Barack Obama pleaded with supporters of his 2008 campaign Monday to help elect Democrats as his aides intensified their focus on re-energizing his broad coalition of backers.

"I need your help once more," the president said in an online video sent to millions of his supporters. "If you help us make sure that first-time voters in 2008 make their voices heard again in November, then together we will deliver on the promise of change, and hope, and prosperity for generations to come."

The video announcement of what Democrats are calling "Vote 2010" is part of a multi-pronged effort by the Democratic National Committee to re-engage the legions of backers -- including first-time voters, young people, blacks, Hispanics, and independents -- who propelled Obama to victory in his groundbreaking campaign. That won't be easy.

WATCH: President Obama Announces Vote 2010:

Democrats face a tough political environment, partly because of the economic recession and continued joblessness.

Since Obama won the White House, voters of all political stripes have soured on the president and his party; his job performance rate hovers around 50 percent and support for Democrats in Congress is even lower. The growth of government and spending increases have turned off some independent voters. Parts of the Democratic base are frustrated with the pace at which the president has made change. And some Republicans who crossed over to vote for Obama now are disillusioned.

Even some of the most senior Democratic officials don't expect that the coalition of voters who backed Obama will turn out in droves when he's not on the ballot. They didn't in three recent statewide races -- in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts -- even though Obama himself made the same appeal and campaigned in those states on behalf of Democrats. Republicans won all three races.

Of particular concern for Democrats are people who were first-time voters in 2008; they're among the least likely to vote again.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine as well as Obama political advisers David Plouffe and Mitch Stewart were rolling out details of the 2010 campaign strategy over the next week. The party plans to spend at least $20 million -- and probably far more -- to defend its comfortable majorities in Congress.

In his message, Obama sketched out the party's core argument for keeping it in power: he cast the elections as a choice between continuing the changes made under Democrats who fight for everyday Americans and going backward under the rule of Republicans who do the bidding of big business.

"Today, the health insurance companies, the Wall Street banks, and the special interests who have ruled Washington for too long are already focused on November's congressional elections," Obama said. "They see these elections as a chance to put their allies back in power, and undo all that we have accomplished."

He added: "It will be up to each of you to keep our nation moving forward."

I think this whole "economic crisis" is hilarious. Just the red herring politicians need to distract the populous. Or perhaps just evidence of the kind of frightened little people Americans are allowing themselves to become. During the REAL Depression unemployment got closer to 25%; and starving Americans lined up at soup kitchens. Today an unemployed American can be fat and happy shopping for Chinese poisons at the local Wal-Mart. Continued joblessness? Entitlement is the name of the game; guess what, some shit jobs paying minimum wage are reality. Not everyone will live the Disney life as a prince or princess. This whole financial crisis, is because if given the fairy-tales we were raised on and then credit, people buy what they cannot afford. They get jobs selling what others cannot afford. they buy homes at prices they will never pay. And then eventually someone says, "pay up!"

And sure as shit, it all fell apart at the seems...

it's obvious why you have no fans.

your world view is completely produced by Rush and Beck. Wake up and smell the coffee on the unemployment line. I think you are setting yourself up for a rude awakening.

Actually I have never listened or watched either... Although I trust you have. only a fool would waste even two seconds paying mind to mainstream commentators. who simply represent the poison which you swallow daily. I am currently fully employed as a matter of fact. the only thing you got right is that I have no fans. well if Fans are evidence that one is on the right track, then people like Beck and Ruch with tens of thousands of devotees(at least) must be just what you all need.
-ps I voted for Obama. Good luck with the Red Blue food fight though!

"All we have accomplished"--The financial oligarchy that runs this country are always looking for someone to play the role of president, so people can hold onto the idea that they are participants in a democracy, and thus, behave in an orderly fashion as they are conned and exploited.

Said oligarchs have found an unexpected, but extremely capable candidate for this role in Barack Obama.

I don't think he's quite Ronald Reagan good, but he beats the heck out of those Bush fellows.

Has there ever been a more divisive President?

No.... never have had a President who has caused so much of an uproar and hate by daring to be elected and move into the White House with his Black Family...... no, it's more than obvious that those people who have sat quietly with their bigotry, racism and hate, just can't sit by and watch a bi-racial man succeed at anything... Boss Limbaugh has spoken, thos POTUS cannot be allowed to succeeed at ANYTHING.... to many centuries old cultural/racial stereotypes at risk!

People hated and despised this POTUS before his 1rst day in office, his 1rst appointment, his 1rst policy decision, in fact since the day he ended up on the cover of Time Magazine, being seen as a legitimate candidate for POTUS! The hate machine started at that moment and has never abated.

Go ahead... SCREAM, screeeeam it LOUD... RACE CARD, RACE CARD!!! There does that feel better. Doesn't change a darned thing in terms of truth. I never thought I would again see the day that such wide spread and open bigoted nonsense would so proudly be displayed.

Here though is where it had its beginnings, where Palin encouraged people to express their hate, and they have been doing so since this Oct 2008 campaign rally:

That is very narrow minded. More than 70% of us supported him. Now less than 50% of you do. I wanted a leader, not another W. A clone is all we got. That explains the drop he has suffered. Sarah's 22% were never going to accept him. Now, I dislike him as much as I would any man who left me feeling so betrayed.

That is not growth in Sarah's 22%. That is dissatisfaction with Obama.

From his first day in office the potus appointed economic people from the Bush administration, turning his back on progress or any new direction after the supply siders tossed the economy in the drink to support the right wing president. He kept the patriot act, he expanded Afganistan, etc. etc. etc. He has barely missed an opportunity to be right wing...IT IS NOT RACIST TO DISLIKE HIS RIGHT WING POLICIES AND APPOINTMENTS...IT IS REALISTIC!

It's really very obvious this country has come to a crossroads. We can continue our path toward a European society or we can reject it. Our decision in 2010 will decide our fate. Go online and really look at what our counterparts in Europe have. Then vote with care. Don't listen to FOX or Beck or Rush. Do your own research, and decide what you want this country to be.

Dear Mr. President, we needed your help. Remember Change you can believe in?

Remember Health and the single payor and the PUBLIC OPTION?
Remember Domestic spying, torture, rendition, black site prisons?
Remember Guantanamo and the Uhighurs who are admittedly innocent?
Remember Military Commissions where we can tarnish American Justice some more?
Remember Don't ask don't tell (turned into don't address)?
Now we have runaway state legislation on immigration because the Federal Government hasn't done anything to fill the need.
Remember the HUGE mandate you had after the election and the big Democratic presence in the Congress?
Remember the big give away (bailout) that the financial crises required, and now the financial reform is languishing?
Remember your need to have bipartisan legislation until (still?) it was more than obvious you were being taken for a ride by the Republican MINORITY?
Remember your past appointments to jobs where your progressive backers were ignored? Now we have the Supreme Court that by its past recent decisions is desparatel in need of a progressive voice.
Remember all the appointments that are in the Senate waiting approval that could have been appointed as recess appointments had the political courage been there.

Remember Franklin D Roosevelt who told the opposition that what the Country needed was his agenda and they could lump it?

Now you need us, and Frankly I hope the people respond, but I also hope you have learned that the price of our support is a lot more POLITICAL COURAGE.

"The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." ~ 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

You ALL have been laughing at the Tea Party people, wondering how they could possibly that ignorant... pushing for agendas that are in fact AGAINST THEIR OWN BEST INTERESTS and that of our nation!

Sooo.... because this POTUS, who has in fact fullfilled more campaign promises than ANY President in the past FORTY YEARS, taking into account the ENTIREITY of their 4 or 8 year terms, hasn't yet completed ALL of the things you want, you're going to take that ball and give it to people like THIS, who believes that Obama is the son of Satan, or an alien Marxist, Communist, not born here, etc etc etc.

You are REALLY willing to hand back the country to the hordes of lunatics we have ALL seen running around in the past 15 months and the Republican legislators who would rather follow Boss Limbaugh's dictate that Obama must be allowed to succeed at NOTHING than doing what is best for the country... and YOU want to help them do that, because things haven't gone completely your way???

You, in a different way than MBWINTERS intimates... will most definitely be ,aking a deal with the DARK SIDE!

RESPONDING TO BARACK. WHY HE IS HATED.

Obama is frightening to those who believe that America belongs to them in perpetuity.

He represents the kind of change that the dominant population has always resisted with rumor, threat, and violence. This has been repeated in immigrant cycle after cycle.

A city is German and Dutch, think New York. And then "they" show up with their strange language, customs, color and religion. They are the Irish, the Italians and the Polish. They are relegated to the worst occupations and the worst neighborhoods. They are the subject of vicious rumors and horrid tales. They are kept "out" of the inner circles of power, wealth and influence by the dominant groups.

And then comes a tipping point. Sometimes it is an event, sometimes it is a movement, sometimes it is so gradual that it things change and no one is quite clear as to when that change happened.

Today, that event is the election of Barack Obama. And they are doing what panicked people do. They are afraid and with fear comes the kind of anger that leads to this nonsense.
