First Posted: 06/26/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:15 PM ET

The voice actor who was fired by Geico after leaving a disparaging voicemail for the tea party PAC FreedomWorks, spoke to Fox News' about Geico's decision to let him go.

Lance Baxter, also known as D.C. Douglas, told Geraldo Rivera that he regretted calling the group mentally retarded, but that he did not regret comments asking Freedomworks how they plan on reacting when a member of their group turns violent.

Baxter urged those who support him not to direct their anger at Geico, but at FreedomWorks.

FreedomWorks posted audio of Baxter's message, along with the actor's telephone number. In a separate interview with Fox that pas part of the same segment, FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe, accused Baxter of posing as a victim.

Rivera pointed out that Baxter was something of a victim and had suffered for his remarks. Kibbe responded, saying that he thought it was fair to judge Baxter for his remarks.

I think I'm going to let my Geico policy lapse, and switch to a company who supports freedom of speach.

a lot of commenters seem to think what he did was stupid. before this media blitz, did you have any idea or even think to care who the voice of the announcer on some random geico commercial was? i think he is playing this very well, and if i can land him a voice acting job for any of the clients i work for, i certainly will.

on a side note, i like his politics. up yours, republicans and tea baggers, you don't deserve the freedom you have.

Why did FreedomWorks feel the need to post this guy's audio and telephone number? Did this group other people's phone calls and telephone number or did they single this guy out because of who he was and who he worked for?

Because Andy Breitbart was grasping at any straw to take attention away from the abhorrent racism and ethnocentrism at the heart of the Tea Party movement

I'm pretty sure it was my GEICO connection. They waited 3 weeks until the morning after I posted on FB that I recorded a new campaign. (GEICO pulled ads from Gelnn Beck and ended up on FreedomWorks Blacklist)

So this clown leaves lots of evidence that he's completely unhinged, and he's whining about why it cost him his job? And to all the usual leftist hypocrites here who defend him and disparage the group he left his messages with, I just wonder how they'd be reacting if he had left such a message with, say, the DNC? But I'm sure the usual leftist hate sites can always use a spokesman. Adding yet another loon to the stable seems logical!
09:51 AM on 04/27/2010
Au Contraire. I don't think he was whining. He took responsibility for what he said. I think the most important part of his comments were that he wonders who is funding FreedomWorks and the Tea Party. He is right to ask! We should all know who funds them, the ACLU, or ANY organization that is politically vocal! He specifically said that he absolutely understood that Geico is a business and did what they had to do. He never made an anonymous phone call. Please, don't call him a whiner! Call him someone who admits he did something stupid, and call him someone who is concerned about the activities of a group who is not telling where the funding is coming from!

And I say yet again that if this guy, or anyone else, had directed such a 'message' at any leftist based group or organization, YOU and yours would not be so charitable towards them. THAT'S the difference.

You give him the benefit of the doubt for 'just doing something stu.pid'. He 'took responsibility for his actions'. 'BUT, he had the right to ask''. Give me a break! You'd be calling for his prosecution if he did such a thing to someone or something your side holds dear. Imagine if some one made such calls to the HP and left messages along this vein. Oh yeah, that would be dismissed as just a 'stu.pid remark' while 'taking responsibility for his actions'...Yeah, right!!
10:25 AM on 04/27/2010
Wrong. We do not have a right to know who funds private organizations, even if they are politically vocal.
09:05 AM on 04/27/2010
To all you posters claiming this is a freedom of speech issue, try taking some time out to understand constitutional protections. The bill of rights protects against government infringement, not private parties or employers. This guy did something that Geico viewed as a potential to damage it's brand and reputation. As a result, they rightfully fired him. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence.

None of these clowns cared a whit about the First Amendment when Prop. 8 passed and left wing groups tracked down the names of individuals who contributed money to the campaign and did everything they could to destroy those individuals' livelihoods.

All this bellyaching is more than a little hypocritical, but coming from them, not at all surprising.

Thats because proposition 8 was hate-filled garbage intended to spitefully deny people the same happiness the rest of us enjoy. For Tea Partiers who promote freedom and liberty, its funny how you don't get either if you're gay, brown, or non-christian.

I don't think its a defense. I think he's pointing out the hypocrisy of a group that would use and condone invectives like n****r and f****t against elected representative, who are so thin-skinned that all they do is play the victim card in the media if someone even calls them Teabaggers. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Also, if youre a phony astro-turfing circus sideshow, orchestrated by Dick Armey and Andrew Breitbart, you probably shouldn't expect to be taken seriously

What is wrong with a portion of our society, standing up and voicing its concern about a federal government, which has racked up nearly $13,000,000,000,000 that will be passed down to the next generation?

So accordin to the Supreme court, corporations have freedom of speech, but employees, not so much. How come the tea party isn't defending his right to free speech. Someone once said, the test of free speech is that we tolerate those who don't agree with us.

So a corporation holds the economic strong hand over it's employees. It's emplyees have no power other than leaving the company. In this economy, a tough choice.I'm sorry, but for the last 20 years corporations have been getting all the breaks, while the employees are getting broken.

Amazing comments, where in this whole scenario were liberals slandered at all? Basically your all upset that GEICO listened to their conservative customers? Wow, what a dumb company to listen to the wants and needs of it's customers. For shame GEICO, for shame.

And i'm sure you won't go and listen or watch the video, but there is a story pretty recently posted on Andrew Breitbart's site about all the hate-mail FreedomWorks received after GEICO let Baxter go.Swearing, vitriol, violence being threatened, whomever left the hate sure should be proud of themselves.

I see more hate and vitriol in the regular articles and comments sections on Breitbart's site than I'm sure was ever received by Freedom Works. What amazes me is, with all the horrible things the Teabaggers say about people, is that they get their panties in such a wad if someone even looks at them cross-eyed. Breitbart and Palin should have a tie breaker for "Most think-skinned, perpetually persecuted, victim-complex in Politics". Glenn Beck is third of course.
