Jeff Ireland: Dez Bryant Mother-Prostitute Question Showed 'Poor Judgment'

Jeff Ireland Dez Bryant Mother Prostitute

Dez Bryant, one of the most highly rated rated wide receivers in the 2010 NFL Draft, raised eyebrows last week when he told Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver that one team asked him a particularly bizarre question during an interview:

"They asked me if my mom's a prostitute," Bryant says, an account that was confirmed by Wells, who attended the meeting. "No, my mom is not a prostitute. I got mad - really mad - but I didn't show it. I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them."

Today, the identity of Bryant's questioner has been revealed. Silver reports that Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland extended the tasteless inquiry. According to ESPN Dallas, Ireland apologized to Bryant for using "poor judgment."

The question may have even outdone several other whoppers that were reportedly asked this year. Third overall pick Gerald McCoy says a team asked him whether he wears a G-string or jock strap. Rhodes scholar Myron Rolle was asked if he deserted his team by attending Oxford.

This can't be good for the team?

Wonder if Mr. Bryant reminded Mr. Silver of a woman he knew in the biblical sense?

If someone had asked me a question like that about my mom, my dad would have hunted the guy down and crushed his skull.

Frankly this sounds like something encouraged by Bill Parcells. (Although his fortunes with Keyshawn Johnson found the old grump bonding with the boastful young man.) I'd like to see a presser where Parcells gets grilled over this. Maybe he'd get mad and do another one of his "retirements."

Wow, what an arse.

Dez should have given dude a royal beat down, while asking him if HIS mother was a prostitute.

Dez Bryant should have answered his question with an A** whipping

That's actually what Jeff Ireland was asking for when he asked that question....

Yes he was and I would have gladly given it to him with a smile.

what he asked was ignorant but Bryant has a reputation for having "character issues" (I don't know why he never broke any rules or got charged with anything during his time at OSU, he did panic and lie about not talking to Deon Sanders which as far as I know is no violation of NCAA rules) so i guess this guy was trying him out to see if he could get him to say something dumb, cause I know NFL executives don't say stupid stuff like this just to say it.... or maybe they do. I guess you can't put anything past anything these days

If you met a few NFL executives, you would know that this is one of the smart guys.

Most are in because of nepotism. Not mental giants.

It's virtually impossible to NOT make money in the NFL. A system designed by geniuses to be operated by idiots.

Exactly ... and the sad part about it all is that Byrant has to smile like it's all good. If he shows his anger then he'll be labeled an "angry black man" who attacked a well-meaning interviewer.

I wouldn't have been drafted had it been me. They would need the whole Dolphins team to pry me off him

I'm with you. Wouldn't want to play for that team and I'm sure some other General Manager would respect my decision to transplant my fist into his mouth and sign me.

He got mad, but he didn't show it. Man, this kid has more class than I do. I sincerely hope that the Cowboys crush the Dolphins next time they play each other.

Welcome to the NFL: Where the players are smarter than the owners and managers.

Sorry, folks. When $40M of guaranteed money is in play, no question is off limits.

And guess what? This wasn't a "job" interview, it was a "draft" interview. The NFL Draft, by definition, is discriminatory. Teams have the option of drafting, or not drafting, any player they like for WHATEVER reason.

Jeff Ireland's apology kind of sticks a pin in that theory.

WeAreTheWorld, that was still an ignorant question that had nothing to do with the draft, I see why some of these kids act the way they do because some of us as adults are stupid as he"" and the children have NOTHING to look up to as leadership, If his mom was a prostitute she did a good job with her son for him to restrain from kicking his A"" my son would not have been restrained for no amount of money. Talking about mens moms is very dangerous.
