Oil Spill Gulf Of Mexico 2010: Homeland Security And Interior Department To Investigate

04/27/10 05:05 PM ET   AP

Louisiana Oil Rig

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has launched a full investigation of last week's oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano (neh-pahl-ih-TAN'-oh) and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar say they will devote every available resource to a comprehensive investigation of the explosion, which left 11 workers missing and presumed dead. The explosion also caused a massive oil spill off the Louisiana coast.

Salazar and Napolitano signed an order Tuesday establishing the next steps for a joint investigation that began last week into the causes of the explosion of the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Minerals Management Service share jurisdiction for the investigation.

It's misfortunate that we have to learn from environmental error "IT IS INSANE TO DRILL OFF ANY COAST OF AMERICA". Check out some of the youtube videos from the possible affected coastlines of this disaster. The Nasa pictures. They are stunning. Whoever came up with this insane idea in the first place should be plastered on billboards as the face of insanity-- throughout the affected areas.

ScienceDaily (Apr. 14, 2010) —

Scientists in Alaska have discovered that lingering oil from the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill is still being ingested by wildlife more than 20 years after the disaster. The research, published in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, uses biomarkers to reveal long-term exposure to oil in harlequin ducks and demonstrates how the consequences of oil spills are measured in decades rather than years.

Accidents are going to happen - Man made or otherwise

Taking a kneej.erk reaction now to recent change in policy is not going to help the long term tract for better energy solutions. This President is doing all he can to improve America's dependence on fossil fuels and needs your support in doing so.

NOT snarky one liners (.) period

Look up West Atlas Oil Rig or Montara which blew up last year in Australia. At the enquiry, these were the headlines.
PTTEP greed blamed for oil catastrophe
Drilling plan cut corners, inquiry told
Good oilfield practice not followed, inquiry told
Safety measures approved in 30 minutes
Timor Sea, the voiceless
Miscalculation and lack of support in oil disaster
Montara drill boss denies changing statement
Montara crew 'not told to install cap'

Nope, plain old cutting corners to save a few dollars.

Care to make a friendly wager? You take "enviro wackos" as the forensically determined primary cause of this tragedy, and I'll take "other". Loser has to forevermore precede each HP comment with the following disclaimer:

"I am an idiot. Please give my philosophy and predictions zero weight."

Are we on?

If terrorists had done this, Republicans would be foaming at the mouth. Since it was just Big Oil, "drill, baby, drill!"

Yay, another waste of time. Why doesn't D.C. just come out and tell us they don't give a damn about the people or the environment? No, they just care about the next donation.
