Terry Goddard Leads Jan Brewer In Arizona Gov's Race: Hispanic Voters Flocking To Democratic Candidate

State Attorney General Terry Goddard (D) leads Republican incumbent Gov. Jan Brewer in Arizona's 2010 gubernatorial election, according to a new survey from Public Policy Polling released on Tuesday.

The poll finds Goddard ahead of Brewer 47 percent to 44 percent in what is becoming an increasingly competitive match-up. An earlier poll from several weeks ago found the candidates to be locked in a tight contest, highlighting a dramatic shift in the race since last fall when the Arizona governor held a 10-point lead over her Democratic challenger.

Hispanic voters also appear to be flocking to Goddard -- his support among that group has more than doubled since September. Hispanics prefer Goddard over Brewer by a 71 percent to 25 percent margin, according to the poll.

The new poll comes in the aftermath of Brewer's decision to enact a controversial immigration bill into state law making it a crime to be in the country illegally. An excerpt from the poll analysis provided by PPP:

Where Brewer was getting only 59% of the Republican vote in our last poll, she's now at 73%. But Goddard has seen a similar improvement in his own party, improving from 77% of the Democratic vote to 88%. The main reason for the overall tightening is that where Brewer trailed Goddard by 12 points with independents previously, that's now just a 2 point deficit.

On the bright side for Brewer, the latest polling data suggests that the Governor's handling of immigration issues has given her a much-needed boost among Republican voters amid a crowded primary race for the GOP nomination for Arizona governor.

I live in Arizona and enthusiastically back Jan Brewer's election campaign.

www.janbrewer.com

for those who wish to contribute to one of our most courageous governors ever.

Despite the best wishes of Elyse ("Elise" is the common spelling, my dear) Siegel, the author of this liberal wet dream hit piece, Jan Brewer will utterly eviscerate Goddard in the Arizona gubernatorial election and will easily become our next governor.

We in Arizona are light years ahead of California on issues of diversity. Arizona has had four female governors, the most of any state, and three of them in a row so far. The last male governor left office in September, 1997, almost 13 years ago. We won't have a male governor until at least 2015. There! So put that in your medicinal marijuana pipe and smoke it! Boycott us at your own peril.

In a way, I'm glad about this situation. Let's get all the bigots and racists out of the closet and let them try to justify tearing up the Bill of Rights. I'm so sick of people who wave the Constitution around, yet have no understanding of the personal rights it assigns to our citizens to move around this country freely and not be spied upon by their government.

First they think it's OK to tap my phone if I might be talking to a Muslim, and now they say it's OK to stop me on the street and demand papers if I might be too brown-looking? Next thing you know, they'll be claiming Hawaii isn't a state because too many "foreigners" live there ...

I'm an Independent, I have voted both for Republican and Democrats depending on what the party stood for over the years...

What if this law in AZ is Enacted? Found protected under the constitution by Federal Courts. ALL Other states will follow. The same civil rights violations which WILL Occur to US Citizens under this AZ Law will then Occur Everywhere else...

Suddenly The Republican Party will be the Party who Championed the Greatest Growth of Basic Civil Rights Violations as these rights violations will be impossible to avoid under a Non-Discriminating application of this Law.

White People - No ID in America... You will be arrested and detained as an Undocumented Alien - No Discrimination - You will be assumed Illegal Canadian until you can prove otherwise from a jail cell.

The Republican Party will be Known for what it actually has inflicted on All US Citizens.

I think that a certain vocal minority Wants Discrimination - Read the Law -There IS no Discrimination. No ID - for whatever reason - even if you have it but are not carrying it for whatever reason You will be arrested. White, Black, Hispanic, You will be arrested and your car impounded

Careful what you wish for... Do you Honestly Believe The Republican party will survive this law if it becomes enacted?

That's barely a jump....and in a poll of only 500 people, I don't find this too earth shattering.

I am more interested in Jan Brewers soaring approval ratings in the state.

She's brilliant. She's doing something solely for the citizens of the people who elected her. THAT is what our representatives are supposed to do. She will go down in history for this very Thatcheresque move that will only better the situation in the state of Arizona. And for all the progressives threatening boycott, I just booked my trip to AZ just yesterday for mid-June.

A) She wasn't elected..she took office when the Democrat we chose twice went on to DC

B) Anyplace south of Strawberry that's not in the mountains is not exactly a vacation to brag about in mid-June.

"On the bright side"? There is no bright side in Gov. Brewer's support for an anti-Constitutional bill like SB 1070 - not for people of the browner persuasions, anyway.

Unless an illegal is caught working, how would you know he isn't a tourist?

And if he IS caught working, why not prosecute the boss?

From my understanding of this new AZ law, if I inform an officer I think someone is illegally in the state; the officer is then obligated to request proof of citizenship from the individual (or individuals) in order to avoid a potential law suit. This implies the threshold of suspicion lies not just in the officers’ judgment but also in the accusers’. While the specific intent is to target the Hispanic population, everyone no matter what color skin or language spoken or with what accent could be considered a potential suspect.
I wonder what local law enforcement will be allowed to consider proof of citizenship. In many states, you are not required to supply proof of citizenship for a license. Coupled with the new AZ birther law AZ also recently passed, one would be hard pressed to figure out what exactly what will consider acceptable proof of citizenship. One could argue the police will be obligated to request proof of citizenship from the president if he ever visited AZ and one AZ citizen questioned his citizenship. But what are the odds of that happing?

"reasonable suspicion" will only exist if the person is latino. If you accuse a white person, the cop will not find "reasonable suspicion."

Rasmussen has new numbers today (500 LVs, 4/27, MoE +/- 4.5%) on Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) in the wake of her decision to sign a law requiring local law enforcement to verify the status of suspected illegal immigrants.

First off, her job approval rating is way up -- to 56 percent, up from 40 percent just two weeks earlier. Disapproval is now at 42 percent, down from 56 percent.

There's also a new ballot test against Attorney General Terry Goddard (D):

General Election Matchup
Brewer 48 (+4 vs. last poll, 4/16)
Goddard 40 (unch)
Und 5 (-1)

A Public Policy Polling (D) survey released yesterday, conducted just a few days earlier, showed Brewer's job rating far lower, and Goddard leading Brewer by 3 points.
Please get the facts straight in terms of timing.

Aryan-Zone-A's new law is primarily a means to intimidate legal hispanics from voting.
This is gop brewer's means of throwing the election, no matter how many flock to the Democratic Candidate.
