Johnny Weir Shoots Back At Evan Lysacek (VIDEO)

Johnny Weir Evan Lysacek Stars On Ice

Johnny Weir shot back at Olympic gold medalist and commercial tweeter Evan Lysacek on Wednesday, responding to the champion skater's comments about a controversy that has dogged Weir since the Olympics.

Weir, who represented the United States at the Vancouver Games, was not invited to join the Stars On Ice skating tour in March, allegedly because he is "not family friendly." The reason was seen by many as a shot at Weir's perceived sexual orientation, although the tour denied that "gender identity and sexual orientation" played a role in its decision-making process.

Lysacek appears to have been displeased by the controversy. In a recent interview with Metromix, he blamed Weir for the episode:

"Stars on Ice" is really selective of who they hire and they only hire the best of the best to skate. It would've been hard of them to justify hiring him, and I think he was really upset because he wanted the financial benefit of the tour. A lot of us in the skating world were really disappointed in the way he reacted, basically whining that he wasn't chosen.

Today, Weir responded. He told Wendy Williams that "even if [Stars On Ice] asked me today, I wouldn't do it," and dismissed Lysacek as a "slore." Scroll down for video.

I don't think anyone has ever looked at men's figure skating and determined they were biased against homosexuals.

They are however more biased against the feminine..... not the perceived sexuality.

You can be Gay... but evidently you have to be Butch Gay.....

For many ... It's kinda like that in the gay community....too.

I am a big Johnny Weir fan, but am sad that he resorted to name calling. To me Johnny is like the hare and Evan is the tortoise. When they were both younger Johnny won all the competitions between the two of them because of his natural talent and beautiful style as well as athleticism. He beat Evan in Junior worlds, then became the US champion 3 years in a row. But in the end, Evan's focus and determination won him medals. When Johnny refocused himself in 2008 ,he beat Evan in several competitions and tied with Evan in the national championship, but settled for silver because of some arbitrary rule. I'm heartbroken that Johnny never realized his Olympic medal dreams and sad that he called a fellow skater a slore publicly. I still love Johnny more than Evan. Actually, I don't have any interest in Evan. If weren't for Johnny, I probably wouldn't even know who Evan or Plushenko were. I wouldn't have excitedly tuned into and enjoyed men's skating.

I think Johnny is brilliant in calling Evan a "slore" because no one knows what it means. Weir was saying it in a jokingly way showing that he is not allowing Evan's mean spirited remarks to get to him He is a true champion.

I didn't read anything as insulting as "slore" come from Lysacek's mouth. And I love Johnny Weir.

Just bc most people may not know what it means doesn't explain why he had to stoop to such a level. Crass, he could have had the upper hand and blew it.

No problem with Johnny being gay. He is so flaming over the top it is obnoxious.

Skater fight! Someone break out a bowl of milk.

Well, Evan. A lot of us outside the skating world think your a first class prick. What ever happened to grace in victory.

Look, I can't find a commanding reason to fall into either camp (as if that's some requirement for this "story"), as I've seen plenty of articles to convince me that Lysacek and Weir are pretty shallow (not to mention, often humorless) in lots of ways outside their sport. That being said, the sport of ice-skating made well-publicized rule changes some yrs ago to reign in dramatics-in-place-of-technique, as well as to reign in gymnastics-in-place-of-stamina. Since those rule changes, Lysacek has won a world title and an Olympic title. Seems to me, he and his coach bothered to read the operator's manual, while Plushenko and Weir threw in w/antiquated interpretations of their sport mentored by coaches from a bygone era. Love Johnny Weir as much as you need, but know that he's making the decisions that limit his options, not his fan club.

"to reign in dramatics-in-place-of-technique,"

I'm sorry but it is not "reign in"......it is rein in.
reign is about "Miss Peajean only reigned briefly as Miss California because she didn't follow the rules"....

"I reined the horse in as I did not want him running over the children playing in the pasture. "(reined=controlled)

you shouldn't call it a sport. it's a pageant. whether the skater is gay, straight, man or woman it's a pageant.

the contestants parade in front of judges to receive a subjective score. there is no such thing as an objective outcome.

Johnny, it's not that you're gay. If it was that, then Lysacek wouldn't be skating either. It's that you're a QUEEN.

The entire situation is petty and childish. It's only a sports story because they are Olympians. Wouldn't it be nice to read about some sporting events? Can't find many of those here.

Scanning the list of current and former participants in Stars on Ice, I conclude that the list is NOT exclusive enough to leave Johnny Weir out. He is as good or better than some of the skaters and, therefore, certainly one of the "best of the best." As IMG began Stars on Ice as a show more geared to adults (no puppet costumes and fairy tales, but often very steamy numbers), the alleged claim of "not family friendly" appears more homophobia than otherwise.

So, all in all, the whole situation is just wrong, and neither of the two skaters (Evan and Johnny) burnishes his image with these public comments.

Johnny's skating is beautiful and artistic; Evan's is exquisitely executed and exciting. None, one, or both may be gay, but as I watch their skating and not their sexual activities, the issue is unimportant to me (as it should be to others).

Both Lysacek and Weir are excellent skaters. I just don't see why Lysacek felt the need to make personal comments about Weir. As Bette Davis famously said in "All About Eve," "Be careful of the people you offend on the way to the top because you'll meet them again on your way down."

I couldn't agree with you more. Brilliant quote from a great film. Weir is a talented, soulful skater ... and should have been included.

You are right. Evan should not have responded to this. Not trying to excuse him, but I wonder if there is more going on with these 2 than we know.

I'd have thought about going to see a show if Johnny was involved. He's the only one right now with any real personality as far as I'm concerned. *shrug* Their loss.

Yes, their loss. I've seen Johnny's show and he seems like a genuine, talented and seriously hardworking guy.

Evan, don't presume to speak for the skating world, just speak for yourself. Johnny wasn't whining as his fans were the ones bringing it up, not him.

Johnny Weird tries too way too hard to be strange and flamboyant (nothing genuine about it at all) and he seems somewhat immature and petulant. I think that's the problem most people have with him.
05:17 PM on 04/29/2010
I disagree. I think he expresses himself beautifully...on the ice and off.
