Pedro Espada Jr., Son Hit With New Fraud Charges

Cuomoa Hits Espada, Son With New Fraud Charges

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is filing a lawsuit against Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. and his son for fraudulent and abusive labor practices.

The suit alleges the Espadas violated labor laws by creating a sham job training program that cheated workers and shortchanged the state.

Senator Espada is accused of creating a for-profit management company as a vehicle to siphon money from Soundview, the Bronx-based not-for-profit where he's CEO.

Espada and his son then allegedly operated a sham job training program to maximize their profits while underpaying the workers.

Last week, Attorney General Cuomo filed suit against Espada for diverting Soundview's charitable assets and using the money for himself.
