Three of the country's prominent universities are hiking their prices.

The University of Virginia's tuition is set for a double-digit rise, according to the Washington Post:

[U Va's] Board of Visitors this week considers a hike of $956, or nearly 10 percent, according to a wire report. Based on current tuition and fees, that takes the total to $10,826 for entering students and $10,636 for returning students.

Rates would rise by $1,900 to nearly $34,000 for out-of-state students

Virginia Tech's tuition has already been increased by 9.7 percent.

University of Kentucky officials almost unanimously voted for a 6 percent tuition hike this week, though UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. told the Lexington Herald-Ledger that the school remains less expensive than the universities of Michigan, Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

And the University of Maryland will implement a 3 percent increase next year in the hopes of generating nearly $40 million in revenue.

It's a shame these universities do not send the various salary schedules to the legislatures.
It's also a shame when salaries remain hidden behind the wall of privacy. How is a public payroll kept under the Freedom of Information Act when taxpayers have already subsidized the college and paid these salaries for decades?
Tuition costs are rising during a recession. How does this help the state economy? This investment in the families of the university workers does not mean the public is winning a race.Colleges have kept raising the tuition and fees for the past decades yet still cry wolf.

Eastern Michigan University announced on April 20 a "0,0,0" initiative for 2010-2011 -- 0-percent tuition increase, 0-percent room increase and 0-percent board increase. The initiative, undertaken despite a proposed 3.1 percent decrease in state funding, is in response to the economic challenges for students and families in the state of Michigan.

10000 for instate is still money but at 33-35000 for out of state they're aiming for the stars...That's too close to the tuition at private schools.

Virginia has a new Republican governor who cares more about roads than education. School districts across the state are having to lay off teachers. But we have enough money to waste on a lawsuit against the new healthcare bill.
