Ryan Leaf Jamarcus Russell Nfl Draft Bust

FanHouse:

In an ideal world, Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell would square off in Celebrity Deathmatch (with special guest referee Michael Irvin, natch) in order to determine -- as everyone on the internet seems to want to do today -- the biggest draft bust in NFL history.

For me Brian Bosworth, the Boz is still number 1. He has to be the most hyped college player to not be a star int the NFL. He was so hyped they even tried to give him a movie career that didn't work out either.

He was hyped and known nationally - I bet most non Football don't know much about Leaf or Russell.

That would be fair -- seems both Leaf and Russell don't know much about football.

Since i can kind of remember JaMarcus...guess Mr Leaf is the biggest loser since he as vivid to me as that has-been teen idol [who i just googled up: teen idol lief---and the result was LEIF Garret, who i have no idea who he is] Like Justin Beiber and the Jonas Brothers, you're familiar with the names if you read the newspapers.

Russell has bigger exposure since he's on the Raiders...even when the Raiders suck to the max, you KNOW who their stars are!

Its way to early to call Jamarcus a bust...he had the unenviable fortune to land in Al Davis's
NFL sanatorium. Also..oakland's coaching staff is at very best SUSPECT.
Put him under a guy like Shanahan and watch him blossom.

Really?? Leaf, I can understand vying for the title of bigget draft bust, but Russell? He's so young and his team is so bad!! I wonder why Adam or Matt Jones weren't up there when it comes to busts.

SOrry russel is not a bum the entire Raiders organization is in the crapper..Al Needs to let someone come in and run the team..Tony Dungy...they need to bring a serious Vet to teach Russel the game again..he has a great arm and he reads defenses..problem is the dude is always on the fracking ground

At this time it would still have to be Ryan Leaf's title as Russell is 24 and still has a chance to do something with his career. However, if Russell's career ends today he would win based on the money spent and him being an overall #1 whereas Leaf went #2.

That's the answer to the question.

Leaf easy. He's out of the league so his reputation is assured. Russell may go to another team and flourish. So jury out on Russell, but not Leaf.

In college he was bigger and stronger than most of his peers. Big and strong isn't enough in the NFL - you need skills as well.

How he showed up for "work" in Oakland.

So he's not just a bum but a clueless bum. Amazing. If he has a public relations person or firm and they approved that, they should be fired.

I think he still have to wait for JaMarcus Russell to either get addicted to something or be arrested a few times until we compare him with Ryan Leaf.

I guess this is the flip side of, who's better, Polamalu or Reed? The thing about Russell is, he's only 24. He still has time to dedicate himself to the game and not go down in ignominy. The thing is, though... if he couldn't motivate himself last year -- with all the booing he got from the home crowd -- will he ever get motivated?

Until Russell snaps on a reporter in the locker, Leaf will be the number one bust of all time.

Russell already has more starts than Leaf.

Right now I'd have to say Leaf but Russell is sure and heck going to give him a run for his title!!!

Leaf. He was an emotional wreck, while Russell just doesn't seem to care.
