People's Most Beautiful: Heidi Klum Poses WITHOUT Makeup (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 06/29/2010 5:12 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 4:20 pm

Models are obviously candidates for People's Most Beautiful People 2010 package, so Heidi Klum decided to up the ante and appear in the magazine sans makeup. That's right--no concealer, no lip stuff and no eyeliner! Klum is joined on the list by fellow models Brooklyn Decker, Selita Ebanks, Jessica Stam, and Jessica White. Take a look at the lovely ladies:

Wearing no makeup doesn't count if the photo is edited.

I thought without all the makeup she would look horrible, but she does look great.

This 'everything is photoshopped' idea almost sends to women who read these things the message - nobody is beautiful without makeup and photoshop anyway. But guess what - there is such thing as beauty, it is rare, but some people just are beautiful. Take Vodianova for example - she was beautiful back in Russia going to school or to the market or whatever. Take a stroll downtown, you'll see a girl that is beautiful. Beauty is out there. It exists.

Why would she do that and why would it be reported? Someone needs to get a real job.

Annoying personality with a plain face

Oh stop. Of course she has make up on -- she is made to appear like she is not wearing any by going light on mascara and lipstick. But she certainly has base on. They pull a story like this every couple of years or so about models not wearing makeup. It's a joke that only gullible people believe.

Fabulous Realness.

I think people saying she's average are just use to "make up" beauty so, natural beauty doesn't look that good to them anymore! She looks good for someone with out make up and that's rare.
05:59 PM on 04/30/2010
Though the haircut and pose aren't really working for her!

The hair is pretty silly. But that face is so lovely. She looks like there is a lot going on behind those eyes....they sparkle. That said, I heard her interviewed and there is sadly not much going on at all.

Notice how that is worded. No makeup, but they are not saying no retouching. I've often seen shoots that are either 1. Full makeup but no retouching, or 2. no makeup and retouching, but I don't think I've ever seen no make and no retouching.

A lot of women here are saying this lady is unattractive without makeup. A lot of men here say she's attractive and that they're not too crazy about women who wear too much makeup. Are the women who think makeup makes them more attractive wearing the stuff for men, or for other women? Are women more critical of women's looks than men are? Just throwing it out there.

It's a layered issue in the country I think. Even though the men still say she looks good, doesn't mean they wouldn't want her at her best. Perhaps the woman see a threat to their ability to find or keep a mate and belittle other women as an instinct.

Going back to men: Men are biologically wired to find women with make-up more attractive, I made a post about it below. I don't think a man wants a clown like Tammy Faye Bakker, but there are reasons why models wear make up. They look attractive to both sexes, more so men, just as a phallic symbol responds to both sexes as found within much of advertising.

It's a combination of biological and psychological messaging. A 'plain' face will be ignored versus an attractive, made-up face that won't be. Symmetry is major as well to both sexes and so is youth and healthy looking exterior. It's all relative to finding a suitable mate.

Men do love women in make-up, they simply aren't aware of it. Obviously they don't like women who look like they have "too much makeup" on, but they do like it.
11:22 PM on 05/04/2010
Spot on. Men always say they don't like make-up on women. They like it when they can't tell it's on.

You know combing some of the fashion forums and the whole 'natural' look versus using make-up astonishes me. There are those who claim they like the natural look either because they just don't feel like getting up in the morning and taking care of themselves OR some men are just scoring points. In all of this they forget why make-up was even invented, I mean really invented.

It is simply to promote the ability to find a mate and procreate. It has changed somewhat with creative styling and with different colors, but the use of blush and lipstick was to make the female look like she was in heat. The male would respond by noticing the color and find the female more attractive. There is more to it now to look more youthful, but it still stems from procreation. Today it is also both functional and a social norm.

What I'm trying to drive home here is, if you want out of the competition ladies, not wearing make up will definitely help versus those who do. Men are programmed to respond to the girls who 'doll' themselves up. So don't call them pigs because they respond to what is only natural to them biologically. Same goes to men who don't like it when a woman sees a fit young male and is attracted, she's programmed too.

This armchair anthropology gets very tiresome. "Programmed"? People are not robots. There is a lot more to human desire than just biological instinct and the desire to procreate. Human women do not go "in heat" like animals. What you read in a couple of pop-psych books from Barnes & Noble and your personal speculations are not a substitute for actual expertise.

I'm sorry among your rant there you forgot to link any of YOUR findings against the multitude of basic anatomy courses that teaches 'flush cheeks, red lips' is an attractor to the male half of the species. It happens naturally at specific point in pregnancy and during intense attraction. Also programmed may have been a poor choice of words, but certainly you wouldn't say we're not animals.

Also, my statement may have had a few anthropological points, but mainly it was about anatomy.
