School Budget Protests

Daily Targum :

[Rutgers] University President Richard L. McCormick was one of 17 public college and university presidents who headed to Trenton yesterday to object to funding cuts and caps on tuition hikes.

In his opening remarks at a hearing in front of the state Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee in the state house annex, McCormick said the state's continual reduction in aid to higher education hinders the public colleges and universities, which contribute to the economy of the state.

Dumbing down voters makes sense for the GOP to remain in power.

This bully is he!! bent on destroying this state !!! He cut aid to mass transit---fare hikes
He cut aid to schools---property taxes go up
He cut aid to state colleges---tuition goes up
He cut aid to municipalities---property taxes
up more
He eliminates property tax rebate for all, even
the elderly and the disabled
But he will not continue the tax on the those making over $400,000 !!! He's also cutting taxes on large businesses !!! He's rolling back consumer protections and environmental laws !!
A real "man of the people"----This is what happens when people vote Repub --- disaster !!!!

I always hesitate to offer knowledge and logic here, but it's a slow call night.First, cutting aid to colleges et al makes the cost fall on the user. there's a certain logic there, isn't thee? Secondly, property taxes will only rise if citizens vote for them NJ has the highest paid PS teachers in the country , and the 3rd highest public employee pay .
Thirdly, the elderly are better (financially ) than any other group.
Fourthly, attempting to selectively tax very smart people (and most people making this are, well, smart) only encourages them to 'vote with thei feet'
CAn you tell me what environmental laws are being rescinded, how many state workers will be released and what financial savings might then occur?
And,diffidently,I note, new Jersey's bankrupt. It's popularly supposed Einstein -altho it was actually Mies van der Rohe- said,"The definition of insanity is perpetually repeating something that isn't working.

Looks like the chickens are coming home to roost for NJ.

Be careful who you vote for. Right wingers do not have good track records and most are stealth candidates.

I predict the next area for radical cuts will be the environmental departments and public health and the rich and corporations will get tax cuts. Mark my words.

Your a little late... rich and corporations have received their tax cuts. 800 million for individuals making 400K or more.

A cut/halt in any growth and funding for environmental concerns.

Christie is great at cutting everyone's budget and salary but when asked he refused to even consider taking even a token salry cut himself!
