Michelle Obama's Twitter Debut: Read FLOTUS' First Tweet (PICTURE)
At the recent White House Correspondents Dinner, Obama "killed" with cracks at Palin, Jay Leno "bombed," and journalists were honored for their reporting work.
It was also the scene for a lesser-publicized, but no less important, event: Michelle Obama's first-ever tweet.
FLOTUS sent her inaugural Twitter post via CNN correspondent Ed Henry's iPhone (which she reportedly had some trouble getting the hang of).
Henry explains, "I handed the first lady my iPhone, but it quickly became apparent that she had very little experiences with this smartphone. Like many people, she said, "How do you type on this?"" "
Politico details the tweeting incident, noting FLOTUS isn't likely to be getting her own Twitter account any time soon:
Henry, who shared the story with guests at the Allbritton-POLITICO brunch on Sunday, encouraged Obama to send a tweet. But the first lady told Henry that she couldn't tweet without Robert Gibbs's permission, so Henry secured the blessing from the press secretary himself. Still, FLOTUS didn't believe she was allowed to tweet. So Jay Leno then asked Gibbs. The hub-hub got the president's attention, and then he too said it was OK.
"i am trying to coax First Lady to do her first ever tweet. Gibbs @presssec just gave his blessing..." Ed Henry tweeted.
Several minutes later, FLOTUS' post (via @EdHenryCNN) was sent:
from flotus: "here at dinner this is officially my first Tweet. i am looking forward to some good laughs from the potus and jay"
Henry reports that FLOTUS dictated the tweet: "Gibbs, who was looking over our shoulders, suggested that I type it out, so I told Mrs. Obama to start dictating the note. I started my typing "from flotus," as in "first lady of the United States."
