I buy bottled water, but in glass bottles, which I then reuse to bottle reconstituted juice, powdered drink crystals, home made lemon/lime ade and home made iced tea. Once I've used it a few times, into the recycling bin it goes.

Better hope they don't have a flood, earthquake, huricane or other natural disaster that wipes out the utilities for a week. Also, hope nobody driving through town gets thirsty...or they'll be forced to drink something unhealthy-way to fight obesity! Or how about the poor mom who needs to mix up some baby formual while on the road? Gotta mix it up with some Mountain Dew! Those plastic soda bottles however aren't a threat to the environment.

Where has the common sense in the world gone? Banning something is not the answer. Discouraging people from using plastic when possible is so much more reasonable! Really! I wish people would think about all the possible outcomes before they pass some stupid law and pat themselves on the back!

I think people buy bottled water because they don't bother to plan ahead and they get thirsty when they are out and about. I also know that the tap water in some areas tasts nasty enough to gag a magot. The stuff stinks too. One place I lived in had tap water that stank so bad that nobody drank it. A long hot shower would stink up the entire apartment. Bottled water was the only alternative. Glad I moved.

I like the 1 L Aquafina bottles with the wide mouths. My family has about a half dozen of them. They are easy to clean and we refill them with tap water hundreds of times. It's amazing how durable they are. So essentually we buy the bottle and the water that comes in it is bonus.

Good for them! I wish more people had common sense. I have never jumped on the bottled water band wagon, and i can't understand why people who complain about their financial situation will spend thousand s of dollars on water! If you don't like the taste of your tap water or are uncertain of its contents then you can buy a reverse osmosis system and a UV filter! What most people don't realize is that the water they are selling you in those bottles is not filtered or regulated! You are paying for a scam!!

I read this post with some amusement since we here in Eastern MA are coming off a weekend long water advisory, that included Concord as well.

Every time there comes a new regulation, public outcry ensues over curbing of one's personal freedom. I have not seen too many people self-regulating in a successful way. Wish I had!

We are experiencing a sore lack of common sense in this country.

Sorry Concord, nothing but politically correct stupidity. You make the mistake in saying you do not have the power to enforce a law like this which means that that the first store in town that threatens a lawsuit you are going to fold like wet noodle.

The only ones that would get hurt are the stores in town that sell bottled water. Clearly if you are going on a picnic and need to take some water you are not going to switch to Coke, you are going to the nearest store outside the town line that sells water.

Rate Concord ZERO for common sense in this one...

What if your tap water sucks?

Can buy filters (Brita/Pur) that actually sweeten the tap water.

People should think about getting a good RO under sink filter for their drinking water. It is the same thing these companies do.

Several of the largest distributors take it directly from the tap, no filters. Gotta love the PT Barnum mentality, and how well it works.

If that is the practice, it is just outrageous. I have seen some Europeans friends reach out to "Mineral" water rather than "Spring" water from the store.

HOORAY. I walk along the Rio Grande every day, so far I have picked up enough platic water bottles to fill a garbage truck. Everytime I pick one up, I think "One less piece of plastic in the Great Garbage Patch". Please folks, pick up after yourselves.
