Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/06/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:25 PM ET

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill has not only sparked discussion on the dangers of offshore drilling, but it's also sparked some, er, interesting statements. We've compiled some of the most eyebrow-raising comments that have been made since the spill occurred. Take a look, and vote for the most outrageous reaction.

Rick Perry: Act Of God?
1 of 9
Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) speculated that the spill may have just been God's doing: “From time to time there are going to be things that occur that are acts of God that cannot be prevented."

I can see how this could be seen as a covert terrorist operation called, "Clear the Gulf" aka: "Top Kill" because it has clearly killed all life on the "top" or the surface of the Gulf and we have yet to see the worst, when the Hurricanes come. The oil will be pushed far on to the land, killing everything.
I can only ponder the reason why no one survived. Not one man made it into the water, alive? Were the men removed from the rig before it blew?
And finally, By not being willing to provide gas masks for people who want to help; BP is essentially making sure there will be less people out there helping; less people will go and help clean up.

At the University I studied situations like this for 8 years. The first lesson we learned is to listen to the speaker and Not to assume that the speaker, in this case BP has the same perspective or objective as you. They don't. People are NOT listening to B.P. Here are two statements:
The first statement "BP made, 'This Was Not Our Accident'" I accept that statement as BP's truth! The next, why do you believe that statement is true? Please continue to explain. Let the speaker tell all their truth...
The second statement I have been hearing over and over is, "Everything is going according to plans." My question would be, Please tell me your plans so I will know what to expect. Then Listen. Do NOT ask leading questions. Calmly ask for clarification and more clarification. Ask who is making the plans and what the priorities are. Just listen fully and get more details of BP's plans.
Don't think from your perspective, think from BP's. See how what BP is saying makes sense to BP. Do not think they are NOT smart. BP is very smart and the plan is set. Keep a level head. The more the public pressures BP the more BP will make it look like BP is trying to comply but it is a show. T. Bone Pickens said on Larry King said that the" "Top Kill" has never worked, or maybe just once..." So It was just for show.

Ok. We understand that BP has got themselves into a big mess. Everyone is in an uproar but I am not hearing very many solutions. So I thought I could suggest one. I will keep it short and to the point.

I work for a company called Conveyor Application Systems, or "CAS". They build specialized equipment for spreading material and filling long tubes with various types of materials like sand, rock, soil, mulch, etc. Their equipment has been used for the construction industry primarily, but has also seen some action in erosion control, and lately, in the flood protection and spill containment applications.

Their technology and equipment could contain the oil from seeping into unwanted areas by applying their "Sand Tubes" along the at-risk area. Watch the video to see how it works.

Pretty cool, really fast, really cost-effective, and potentially a major solution for this big, BIG problem. I am not sure who needs to see this and be convinced, and then actually put it into place, so please spread the word.

Watch this youtube video to see how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDhqBtnVR1E

And here is more information about this company: www.cassandtube.com

Your tube would not be effective when hurricanes hit. The wind and water would go up and over. Useless! Any other ideas?

British Petroleum could not obtain permission anywhere else in the world to drill this deep and damn sure couldn't do it near the European continent. United States with the stamp of the Cheney energy commission and President Bush allowed this to come to be for them to drill that deep. It had never been done before. Greed of all those members of that commission and associated companies is the reason we have this disaster going on in the gulf, not god.

Interesting post. Do you know how many other deep wells have been drilled in the Gulf?

From Rick Perry: “From time to time there are going to be things that occur that are acts of God that cannot be prevented."

To Rick Perry: You mean like having two id.iots in a row become the Governor of Texas?

Next excuse. Tony Hayward will say BP didn't even know they had oil rigs in the Gulf until this one exploded.

I love the Lamebaugh quote. Oil is as natural as the ocean.

OK, so lead is natural.

People are natural.

So when one person shoots another person, it was the natural thing that was bound to happen if people were left to their own devices, right?

The ability for anyone to slough this off as "act of god' or just another day at Amusement Park Earth is staggering.

Gosh, boys and girls, I have lots of favorites! -Mighty Mouse. If it's God's fault, so is child abuse by pedophile priests, and the Pope's cover up. If you are a senator from Connecticut, it isn't your problem since your state isn't affected, and big oil pays really well. If you're a Republican leader, it's another opportunity to earn your pay from big oil and say something completely idiotic. If you're Rush Limbaugh, it's another opportunity to prove that you've read the works of Joseph Goebbels and put what you learned to use in the service of greed, hatred, and paranoia. And, if you're a Republican voter from the Deep South, it's an opportunity to reap what you sowed by voting for the deregulating bought-and-paid-for kleptocrats called the Republican Party.

Greeeeeaaaaatttt Post! You have covered each of them, Steel.
We are now reaping what they sowed, those Republican "small government" people who were so bent on benefitting and protecting corporations, so dismissive of environmentalism. Now how does the prescience of California look compared to the idiotic mistake made in the Gulf? Now which agency can we turn to to help us in the catastrophe when they have been gutted and staffed with sycophants and dolts. Fanned.

What God allows to work our lives and what God causes directly are very different. This horror was caused by BP being careless and arrogant. To say it is God's fault is superstition. Hopefully long term good will come from it, but not unless humans take responsibility for it and change for the better.God isn't that mean and stupid. He creates, not destroys.

Can't we just get Rush Limbaugh to consume all the oil? Sit on the beach, open his mouth, and drink it?
