The supremacy clause in the Constitution is what immigrant and civil rights groups have used to argue pre-emption, the legal argument that the federal government has supremacy over states and localities to enforce certain laws. Pre-emption has been successfully used to overturn California's Prop 187 and other anti-immigrant ordinances where states and localities were overreaching their powers to enforce immigration law.

I'm not totally familiar with every detail of the Arizona immigration law, but basicly they want our laws obeyed. How can anyone be against people entering our country LEGALLY? Why do we have a law, if we can't uphold it?

They are talking about the Arizona immigration law on C-Span today. The headline on a newspaper said most Americans are for it. I couldn't get the the name of the newspaper, becaust, it went off so fast. I am wodering about our shortage of jobs and making millions more illegals citizens.
