Oscar De La Renta Still Patiently Waiting To Dress Michelle Obama

Oscar de la Renta has dressed Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush...so when will he get his designing hands on Michelle Obama? Who knows, says The Washington Post.

It was only one year ago that Oscar slammed Michelle Obama for the ensemble she donned to meet Queen Elizabeth, remarking, "You don't...go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater."

He added, "I don't object to the fact that Mrs. Obama is wearing J. Crew to whatever because the diversity of America is what makes this country great. But there are a lot of great designers out there. I think it's wrong to go in one direction only."

De la Renta recently talked to WaPo's Robin Givhan about the FLOTUS' fashion, explaining first ladies are "an American phenomenon....This country has always been very different about that. And it's a learning process. He was elected president. She wasn't. But at the same time, there's an expectation about her that perhaps she was not even ready for."

He continued, "I'd love to dress Mrs. Obama."

Michelle did open her closet doors to one de la Renta, Oscar's son Moises. She wore a red shift dress made by the young designer last September.
