I think it is unfortunate that people assume that Sambi did that because he's a Catholic bishop. That is called profiling and it is wrong. All this article has is a man who has been standing on a street corner for 12 years (which is not exactly normal) about abuse that happened 60 years ago in another country involving totally different people. Where is the verification that this occurred? Who is Sambi? Didn't he host the Pope and sex abuse victims when the Pope was here? There might be another side to this, but unfortunately the reporter did not give any context.

I know a man (married, not sure if he has children) who, as a child, had passed out at some point in a similar situation with a priest. He doesn't recall if he was abused but he gets visibly angry when talking about it so I have to try to change the subject.

For someone known as a "diplomat", Sambi's replies, if corroborated, are definitely not "diplomatic".

But the catholic church has definitely been shown as a long-term enabler of this kind of behavior and I would advise those who follow their teachings that they are not born catholic and there is life after the church.

The best way to deal with the catholic church is to leave it! And sue the heck out of them if necessary.

ALL archbishops are bizarre. Condition of employment.

Great. Add insult to injury and call the VICTIM of pedophilia a "fetid pervert." Memo to vatican: ur PR sux.

The corruption of the Catholic church is in full display these days. This man's witness is the least they should have to suffer for all the pain they have caused and continue to cause in the world. That they continue to have any credibility on matters of sex is mystery to me.

I am the very last person in the world who would come to the defense of the Catholic hierarchy; my wish is that they crumble into oblivion. And yet, while reading this article, there is something just not right about it. As someone else pointed out, I am very skeptical of repressed memories and this was a red flag for me.Let's for a second take the story as fact; a 15 year old masturbates in front of a priest, and that is so traumatic that it causes him to repress it for years until he is therapy??? A bit weak. A second was that there is a clear financial motive for this guy. On the other hand, however, this bishop seems like a real jerk, so any headache brought to his little daily strolls is okay by me.

Lets hope you never have to deal with the experience of repressed memories.

The last thing you should be doing is judging this man's pain.

The Catholic church has massacres and genocides on its hand, and they don't own up to those. Molesting children is relatively mild by comparison.

You can't hold the church to standards of normal humans, they think in centuries not years and the "Spanish Inquisition" was only a few centuries ago, so some progress has been made. At least they don't burn people in public anymore.

The ease with which clergy (and self-proclaimed 'believers') commit clearly sinful acts is either a sign that none of them actually believe there's a deity watching over them, or that they think if they do it, then it's not a sin.

I've come across numerous hassidic Jews who tell lies (clearly against a major commandment) regularly without flinching and then throw a hissy-fit on whether the wine they're being offered is kosher. (kosherite law not being nearly as high up as the commandments but also not economically as lucrative)

or Muslim Imams declare that woman are held in high regard in Islam as "mothers and sisters" as if prior to the advent of Islam women were not granted the honor of pregnancy or sisterhood. Sidestepping their gross injustice of a woman being worth half a man in all judicial procedures under sharia law.

We need a new reformation across the board, or all these organizations need to start paying taxes like the rest of us. Enough is enough.

And what has kept all those rackets going through the ages can be found in an observation attributed to Seneca: “Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.”

if Christians want Muslims to condemn radical Islam why not also the same for the Catholic sex cartel. I fail to understand why the Catholic church hasn't been condemned and federally indited for pedophilia, rape and trying to cover it up. Is there no understanding this is of the highest priority...would we allow any other church to abuse our children for so long so much?
Obviously the church fears God much less than the truth of light.

They know the truth, that's why they don't care.

The RCC is wealthier and more powerful than many countries. It is big business, pure and simple. If it helps, every time you hear 'Roman Catholic Church,' replace it with 'Exxon Mobil' or 'CitiGroup.' The only difference is that religion has magical realism in its toolbox, too.

Contemporaneous notes, in Italian no less! If this man were lying, it would seem that the Church would have filed a lawsuit to stop him from his daily protest...but alas, that would open a flood-gate into the past. Good Luck Mr. Wojnowski.
