9 Gifts NOT To Give Your Mother This Year (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/08/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:25 PM ET

Mother's Day is upon us. The day where you honor the woman who raised you. The woman who made you into the person you are. And you're not the type of person who gives awful gifts, right? Right??? Well, if you're not sure, double check that the gift you had in mind is not on this list.

You have a lot of time, on your hands.

Honestly, most of these weren't so bad unless you're some sort of hideous diva who expects diamonds and no less. The baby sort of depends on the age and marital status of the "giver."

Nothing wrong with a homemade card from an adult, as long as (1) it doesn't look as though it was made by a child, and (2) you realize that a card is not a gift. Card prices are insane: spend the extra five bucks on a better gift, and just scribble a note on a piece of ordinary paper.

I think anything handmade is a gift from the heart and truly a special gift to receive and gift.

I think homemade cards can be awesome. Why discourage creativity?

The best Mother's Day gift you can give your mother -- even your foster mother -- is a phone call on Mother's Day.

No doubt, I called my mom AND my ex-stepmom on Mothers' Day...I figure my stepmom did all that work (even though her and my dad have been divorced for many years) so she''s forever entitled to the credit.

The youtube video has nothing to do with the blurb that is attached to it. That video is a crazy person rambling about cults and bad relationships.

I believe that's Tory Christman in the video. She managed to leave Scientology after reaching a very high "level", and is now a major critic of the "religion"...I don't know why they used the video, except Scientology apparently forces you to become disconnected from your familyand friends if they are not also Scientologists, and they thought the video had something to do with mothers? dunno

I think cards and wrapping paper are a complete waste of money. I appreciate a day off from chores, maybe a meal made by someone else, and a verbal "happy mother's day"

Although I have never been much of a traditional homemaker, my kids have insisted on buying me kitchen appliances that they've never, ever seen me use. Over the years, I've gotten a juice machine, coffee maker, clothes steamer, waffle iron etc., all of which I used that one day with mock enthusiasm, never to be seen again. When I announced in advance that I didn't another kitchen appliance, my lovable kids got me a back massager, the shape, size and weight of a small vacuum cleaner. and the other one, a foot massager bath device which hurt my feet. To get them out of the habit, I let them know I did not want anything battery or electrically operated, and they now usually take me out, which is much nicer and cheaper too!

This was possibly the worst article, if you can call it that, ever on H.P. I disagree with almost every on of the slides. Whoever came up with this should keep their opinions to themselves.

When my parents were alive, I avoided them since they were upset when a process server delivered an injunction I'd gotten from a court which forbade them from contacting me. Since they obtained a counter injunction against me. All of us had peaceful 'family' holidays. There are times when one has toxic parents or the opposite. Reunions of such creatures increase tensions; they are to be avoided.
These occasions benefit only card makers, florists, etc.
