BP Oil Spill Underwater Video Shows Oil Gushing Like Steam From Geyser (VIDEO)

Bp Oil Spill Video Underwater

ROBERT, La. (AP)-- Video released by BP shows oil spewing from a yellowish, broken pipe 5,000 feet below the surface. The oil looks like steam rushing from a geyser.

The video released Wednesday gives a not-yet-seen glimpse of the leaking well a mile underwater. The stream occasionally can be seen becoming lighter as natural gas mixes into the gusher.

Natural gas has been flowing from the well since the beginning. BP's Doug Suttles says the rate natural gas has been flowing out hasn't changed in the 21 days since the Deepwater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico.

Plug the leak!?! Stop the leak!?! What are you people crazy?!? Don't you see all that glorious oil and natural gas coming out of the geyser. This is the mother load!!! We just need some time to figure out a way to extend the pipe or something so we can bring up all that oil to load it on a surface tanker. There's just got to be a way we can save the oil and bring it to market. Be patient people, they just need more time to figure this out. It's probably worth trillions.

how about oil gushing like oil lol i dont think we used steam for about 110 years but we use oil :)

The following links are to be cut and pasted into browser address they
Contain an explanation and diagrams of a new method of relevance to oil spill containment.

Some day in the future a whole new industry could be spawned, submersible tankers could dock to well heads directly, transporting oil from even deeper depths, could also be applied to methane gas collection from the sea floor, more than a mile deep.

I don't believe a fine is enough for the BP oil spill. Anyone who was aware of problems with the blowout preventer should go to jail for a long, long time. All of the lives in ruin on Gulf Coast, think of all of the animals dying and the effects are still not completely known. This is so damn maddening, I will pray for the Gulf residents and of course for the dying animals, but my biggest prayer is that karma will eat up those rich BP executives that were aware of the dangers.

Why is it that the people talking "green" now are the same people that want to increase deep water drilling?
What's up with that?

If we think that politicians are going to help stem this type of greed
and lack of consideration for the environment, we are sadly mistaken! Do we really think that having the "right" politician in office is going to change anything?
No increased tax on oil companies or new laws will change anything! It will not end until the citizenry stop acting like victims and sheep and start voting with their
dollars! If we quit feeding corporations with our hard earned money, they starve! If they starve, they listen. If we keep feeding the bastards, they will continue to wreak
havoc! We will continue to get more of the same! WE, the working pubic
have the power to make them listen! Their fiscal health depends upon OUR
hard earned, taxed to death money, to survive! Quit looking to
Washington to "make things better!" YOU have the POWER to make change by where you spend your money! Every time you pull out your wallet! MAKE IT COUNT!

check this out, and if this works holy cow, that's cool.. I'd rather have one of these break in the Gulf than what is happening now

I used to live close to the Niagara River in western NY where Lake Erie feeds into Lake Ontario. AFAIK it's the greatest source of hydro power on the planet. I never understood why hydro isn't used to the max.
You do need strong currents for these to be effective.

News Update:

It has been confirmed that this is in fact a gusher, and not a spill as was previously thought.

the truth of the matter is we have reached peak oil production of the low hanging fruit. now oil will become more costly oil shale, oil sands and deep water drilling. This oil spill issue will be the topic today; tomorrow high oil prices and then will come the cries drill baby drill. The republicans have taken all the steps to isolate the moderate arabs. These once solid pro american oil suppliers now look to china and the asian countries as the up and coming superpowers with a more reliable currency. Hats off to tricky dick for petro dollars when the dollars worth less you need to charge more for the oil to compensate for loss of dollar purchasing power. And force us to drill in place that could and will suffer extreme enviromental damage. as proven with the news of the day. a vote for a republican is a vote for tomorrows sorrows

We could just let this gusher run it's course. It might stop in a few years, or not. It could serve as a permanent reminder of GOP stupidity.
Maybe these boys are right, we shouldn't interfere with big business.
Here we are now, entertain us.

Still trying to minimize this disaster by calling it a "leak" or "spill". This is an unending river of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The effects are simply unimaginable.
06:06 PM on 05/13/2010
I wish HP would address this "spill" business. They're talking down to us. Then they wonder why people like me come up with annoying jibberish posts. Get with the program HP, this not an oil "spill".

My last recap here and I am out.

The pipe diameter has been verified at 21 inches OD - This information came from the Deep Horizon manifest @ TransOcean's website: http://www.deepwater.com/

The spill rate (both geysers combined, there are two, we are seeing the smaller) is 26,500 barrels per day @ 42 US gallons per, or 1.1 million gallons per day, and I feel this estimate is very conservative: http://blog.skytruth.org/2010/05/bp-gulf-oil-spill-how-big-is-it.html

It's an Exxon-Valdez every 10 days. Yesterday the CEO of BP stated publically it would take 3 months to get a relief well in... I think they need a big change of luck to make that date... 3-6 month is my best guess... It is possible at these depths they won't get a relief well in for 6-9 months. It will be a major feet of engineering skill to hit the bore of this gusher 18,000 feet below the sea bed.

Scroll back thru the last 3-4 pages for lots of technicals... The links explaining the entire fubared operation are right on top.

Thanks, and I can tell already that you're too nice of a person to even want to know how many conservative/Republican noses I've wiped with your information already today.

It is a real question if a relief well will do anything to slow this gusher of oil. This whole business shows that BP and no doubt others are trying to drill past the current knowledge and technology of oil extraction.

I think they can do it, but it's not going to be easy. They are bringing in a second drill rig to double their chances of hitting the target... But this is the very limit of their drilling technology.

These guys ^ will be doing the engineering I do believe.

Actually very close to beach drilling would be better. Because the problem now is that they are trying to shutdown this gusher with a couple of Mars robot rovers there basically trying to put a "finger" to a manhole or push a button of that BOP. "Damn, did not work. Well, nice video feed at least!"

In very shallow waters this would have been taken care by divers already and the containment would have been much more easy to do. So ban DEEP sea drilling but allow beach drilling.

Not surprisingly here's a good story on what came out of the congressional hearings yesterday. They especially got the part about what kind of tests they were running that actually failed just before the blow out.

Those tests were to determine if the well was cased and cemented. In other words completely sealed which would make it impossible for the oil and gas to enter the well bore. Two of those tests actually failed and BP ignored that and continued to come out of the hole pumping cement plugs while the well was actually blowing in on them.
