The "illegal" land grabs might actually be a powerful form of leverage. It depends on who owned the land, and who's taking it. It could be useful if properly applied.

The Karzai brothers need to know that they're fully supported so long as they avoid any "cardinal sins". Drug trade and seizure of assets from opposition figureheads are not "cardinal sins".

Ultimately, I think Karzai understands the need to hand off the reigns of power to a successor, and that successor needs to be cultivating the relationship. Abdullah Abdullah appeared to be a contender for this role. The main thing is that the insurgency has a moving target in the Afghan government. I'm not saying when it needs to happen, nor am I suggesting it needs to happen soon.

The Afghan government must monopolize the opium trade, seize land from those who militarily oppose the government. I don't want any more lip from the DEA on the drug policy.

Why haven't they killed him yet?
Innocent Afghans are dying and American and NATO soldiers are dying.
They should just take him out.
This is serious business.
I'm ready to get out of there. They need to clean up the mess and come home.

What a surprise. We put a dictator in place and his family reaps the rewards. Well they have precedent the Bush's , the Bin Laden's, the Saudi Royal Family. Nepotism the gift that keeps giving.
