Chuck Schumer: Next Senate Majority Leader?

Chuck Schumer Majority Leader

The Washington Post:

Now, with confidant Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) hanging on to his seat by a thread, the Brooklynite is nearing the goal line of his long game. Succeeding Reid would make Schumer the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in American history and, more important for the uber-competitive politician, the first among peers. Schumer has thrust himself into the center of issues ranging from jobs to immigration to Supreme Court hearings, but as that momentum has carried him into a more intimate arena where popularity matters, the grating architect of the current Democratic majority has become noticeably more collegial.

Can't the Dems find someone likable to take this post after the disaster that the Harry and Nancy show has been?

new yorkers should put a stop on this man who voted against breaking dowm the big banks... we the voters are to blame for these life-time appointments in congress... too bad we are so blue that no good opponent from the republican side would challenge him - and i say republican because the democratic party wil not allow any one in the party to challenge Schummer.

Everytime I see this blowhard I think of Bob Dole's quip (miss his sense of humor).... "THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE IN DC IS IN BETWEEN CHUCK AND A TV CAMERA"

NO- its time for this overblown big mouth to go away. He hasn't done a damn thing since he's been in office. Take a clue from Sarah- just walk away and let us get someone that will work for us.
He wants his money from Wall Street to keep coming in , no matter what

I think he would be a good candidate for Majority Leader, but so would Feingold or Durbin.

I'll take either Schumer or Durbin. The current occupant has to go.

I'm thinking Schumer would be a great Majority Leader. His style is very different from Reid's. More outspoken, more confrontational. That's not always the style that works best, but it does make things interesting.

When I hear Sen. Reid speak (which often requires me to turn the volume all the way up), and sit through the stammering and the "uhh ... uhh ... uhh ..." I wonder why in the world the Democrats chose a Majority Leader that fits into the stereotype of the soft-spoken liberal who always backs down when confronted. I find it incredibly hard to believe Sen. Reid used to be a boxer -- I want a majority leader who at least appears to have some spine.

Reid gets things done. I think it's very easy to ridicule his mild manner -- but having grown up in Washington, I know that good manners is no indication of whether someone does or doesn't have a spine. After 100 years of failure, Reid got a health care reform bill passed in the Senate. That' tells me more about his value as a majority leader than anything else.
