ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The director of the Minerals Management Service in Alaska is apologizing to colleagues for having a cake at a recent meeting with the words "Drill, Baby, Drill" on it.

In an e-mail Thursday to agency employees nationwide, Regional Director John Goll says it was wrong and expressed regret that he let that happen in his office.

The issue of offshore drilling has been in the public eye since an oil rig explosion April 20 off the coast of Louisiana that triggered a massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The New York Times reported the cake was served at a staff meeting soon after Interior Secretary Ken Salazar proposed reorganizing the Minerals Management Service in response to the spill.

Calls to Goll's office and the national agency office were not immediately returned.

This guy is too disconnected from the universe and needs to go. I wonder whose favor he gained for doing nothing to get his job.

The MMS should be managed by skeptics, not cheerleaders.

Gosh I hope their little pep rally was not on the anniversary of the Valdez oil spill (March 24). That would be insensitive+oblivious+insult+injury.

Fire these idiots! They can do it in private business. Don't the Retards want to make America run more like a business? At least our MBA president and Romney thought and think so. Why do so many Retards run on their "business" acumen experience? Fire the ass.

They aren't sorry. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing and enjoyed doing it. To them, it is funny and dead on.

They are simply sorry they got caught

Like most in the oil industry, they couldn't care less about safety in the oil industry because they are making millions off the industry

Where's the pool of oil the cake should be sitting in? You don't think he baked that thing in PAM, do you?

What exactly does an "oil regulator" do? Are they the ones who suggest better ways to ruin the environment or are they the ones who minimize the fines once the oil starts to surface in Norway?

As I understand it, MMS is a training ground for lucrative jobs with the oil industry. So once they're on the other side, they know just what kind of bribes, drugs, and sex they have to provide to the "regulators."

I'll bet its much more lucrative to be a oil regulator than to be a solar or clean energy regulator. So if you want a bunch of regulators joining the ranks of the unemployed just keep ripping on the "drill baby drill" crowd and the "coal is not-so-dirty/dangerous" crowd.

Maybe they should make more cakes and give them to the families that lost loved ones in the oil rig explosion. Give some to the people who are now out of work because of the oil spill and give some to the animals that will be starving to death because of loss of their food sources and habitat. Cake makes everything better. KILL BABY KILL!!!!!!

Look at the unnatural colors in that "piece of cake" they have illustrated, is that a pic of an actual serving or is it a stock photo? I couldn't eat that! it isn't made of food! Did anybody actually eat any or is it part of a plot by the oil executives to poison the regulators?

It is a confetti cake. Instead of putting little sugary sprinkles on the frosting, you mix them into the cake batter. It is festive and harmless.

They should have had a picture of Devil's Food cake with thick fudge frosting.

I'm sure he really "regrets" it. He only regrets getting caught.
