Albert Pujols Tony La Russa

FanHouse:

Tony La Russa and Albert Pujols have coexisted in St. Louis for almost 10 seasons without much incident, but that didn't stop their tempers from flaring on Friday when Ryan Ludwick was caught stealing at second base with two outs, a move that left Pujols in the batter's box without a chance to hit. Pujols entered the dugout angrily, and after La Russa tried to reprimand him, things got heated.

Progressive is good; regressive, not so much.

Too bad the juicer markiemcgwire couldn't calm this down. The Cardinals are ripe and ready for an explosion (or implosion) with all the juicers in that dugout!

LaRussa knows how to (over)manage. In the Cardinals 20 inning loss to The Mets, he was so busy making changes that he didn't leave himself any pitchers to finish the game. He doesn't understand that sometimes less is more.

I understand Pujols' frustration but right now Ludwick is contributing as much if not more to this team than Albert is. Pujols is famous in St. Louis for making base running errors, usually because he is hustling and takes chances like running through stop signs. He would be the first one cheering IF Ryan had been successful. Having said that, I do wonder what Ryan is thinking when he takes off from first knowing he could be taking the bat right out of Albert's hands. Also, I agreed with Tony's telling him "That's enough" after he knocked 2 trays of gum to the floor like a child. We love Albert here in St. Louis but wrong is wrong and showing up your team mates like he did, is wrong. He should have let Tony handle it! JMO

Once upon a time, I was a HUGE A's fan. Then they sold the team, broke it up and Tony went to the Card's. Now, I am just a HUGE LaRussa fan! LaRussa is why I love baseball. Pojols can come or go, but LaRussa is THE man.
It isn't like this is play-off time. Maybe LaRussa is training Ryan Ludwick on the art of base stealing. BTW, Ricky Henderson played for LaRussa when he mastered stealing bases.

The only thing LaRussa did for Ricky Henderson was to let him run.

I agree! As Manager of the A's, LaRussa let Rickey run! Nothing was ever more fun than watching him take off for second base. He always played half way there!

Took the bat out of Albert's hands...Brilliant! For the other team...Facing Pujols with the bases empty leading off an inning is a good thing...

Please send Pujols to San Francisco. None of our players can steal. The Cardinals can have Todd Wellemeyer in return.

Hey, great idea. I'm a Giants fan, too. Gotta fan you for that. But, geez, one run in three games against the A's? sigh.......wasting great pitching....

The A's and Giants are almost identical in standing and winning percentage (.510), so the lack of hitting has been made abundantly clear, and Sabien needs to trade some pitching for some hitting if they want to have any chance against LA and SD. They have a chance right now to make up ground with the Nats, Snakes and Rockies, but bats are lacking.

LaRussa is an egotistical idiot, having batted Mark McGwire leadoff years ago and pitchers 8th now. Hopefully this will accelerate his exit from St. Louis and baseball.

I'm looking forward to seeing Pujols in a Red Sox uniform next year.

And then I woke up.

Right after the Yankees got him.

Well, I can tell you, for once, that almost certainly will NOT happen. They've already got a HOF-caliber first baseman.

As a cubs fan I would like it if EITHER the Yankees or Bosox got him.
02:44 PM on 05/24/2010
Just take the bat out of the hands of the best player in baseball. Not very smart. And it's not like the runner was Rickie Henderson or somebody who's just about garaunteed to actual steal the base and not be thrown out by 5 feet.
