Cristiano Ronaldo Furious About Vanity Fair Cover Photo: Report

Cristiano Ronaldo Vanity Fair Cover

First Posted: 05/25/10 10:23 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:35 PM ET

Many readers were pleased when soccer superstar and Armani model Cristiano Ronaldo was displayed in minimal clothing on the cover of Vanity Fair earlier in the month. The muscular forward was shown shirtless and in tight underwear.

One person who was unhappy with the cover photo? Ronaldo himself. A source tells the New York Post that "Ronaldo is freaking out" about the sexy cover shot.

"There are whispers," the source continued, "that what really upset Ronaldo was that, having stripped off to his underpants for the shoot in Madrid, he didn't envisage sharing the cover with another player photographed in Milan."

Also pictured on the cover was Chelsea striker and TIME 100 honoree. He, too, displayed his muscular abs and was clad only in a skimpy undergarment.

In recent months, Ronaldo has been connected to Kim Kardashian -- and he is said to be interested in a curvy topless model from Britain.

Don't bother me if it's not reasoned and pragmatic

At first I thought this was just a fit of arrogance. But it seems fair enough to know if a person's image is going to be photo-shopped into a collage. A person's image is part of their 'property rights' and a valuable resource for those who make a living off that image. I think Cristiano has a right to be upset. For that matter, so does Didier Drogba. Vanity Fair did something sleazy.

Oh good heavens - this is nothing but an ego driven hissy fit! If he wanted complete control of how the photo was going to be used then he should have had his agent get all those details in writing. You know that he covers all those bases in his endorsement deals.

He probably thought he'd be by himself on the cover. As a heterosexual woman... I don't find him attractive at all... I guess it is that arrogance that just makes him so... unappealing. I was cheering for Spain during the game. If my team (Argentina) doesn't win, I'm going all in for Spain.

That's presumptuous. I'm guessing it's more an aesthetic/stylistic thing. Ronaldo looks like a gay stripper, which is why his marketing deals have clearly targeted gay audiences. No one would accuse him of having a classical or distinguished look, and there are tons of Brazilian models who do.

I never found this Ronaldo character remotely attractive, not even when he was playing for my beloved club. You rock Drogba!, even if i detest Chelsea :D

I sense some deep-seated issues?

A confidently straight man who looks like that wouldn't give a damn about the world thinking he's gay.

Poor Ronaldo, nothing is looking up for him these days..

Renaldo's a diver so he has no credibility any more. None, zilch, zero. Add to that all respect for his talent is gone. No respect forevermore.
Divers are the lowest of the low.
