Who Can Wear Pigtails? An Important Infographic (PICTURE)

There comes a time in a woman's life (read: bad hair day) when she needs to look in the mirror and ask herself the questions that count: Should I put a bag over my head? Should I rifle through my hat collection? Should I put my hair in pigtails?

there came a time in my life, when i started to wonder more about the people tracking the "appropriateness" of pigtails than the people who wear pigtails. and the bag over your head comment... really? how do i rate the entire concept of this post as "tacky?"

I'm 32 and wear them all the time. I like having long hair but the midwest humidity in the summer is aweful. Plus I have to do two because only doing one in the back, the shorter bits fall out and then what's the point. I like them, think they look cute. I can look cute if I want. Why be stodgy when you can have fun?

I beg to differ. The answer is not always no.
The actress who plays goth forensics expert Abbie on "NCIS," with her china-doll face and Bettie Page bangs, looks great in pigtails. In fact, we never see her in any other hairstyle on the show.

I had my hair in pigtails yesterday and it looked very cute. I am 57, but I don't look a day over 40.
My boyfriend thought i looked cute, and he would have told me if I looked ridiculous.
Who makes these silly fashion rules, anyway?

i'm a 23 year old mom, and it is Very Rare that I would wear pigtails. In fact, I can't remember the last time I did - I think it was a day at home and my little girl decided to do it to my hair. The older you get, the less it should be considered cute.

I agree. I'd say even up to late teen years and very early twenties is appropriate, especially the new trend of the side braid. Beyond that - it's pathetic.

I love them too. I braid my daughter's hair every day - it's waist length and it keeps it out of her eyes. I think a long, lovely ponytail hanging down your back is beautiful and looks good on women of many ages. More shelf life than "dog ears" and braids :)
