I think that Obama did not reacted for a long time, leaving BP to cover up whatever their had to cover. Initially, it was Dick Cheney who changed the rules on American oil drilling safety and BP did not installed the acoustic switch system worth 500.000$. If you drill in Norway YOU HAVE TO HAVE this system on. Not in America, not after Dick Cheney scraped this safety device from the MUST have list for drilling.
And now it looks like his FIRST LADY comes in to cover up the shit.
This does not strike you?

"communications and crisis management firm" long name for Controlling the Narrative. It's nothing but a high powered bs firm.

Now that there is Fed. criminal probe, what constitutes "Obstructing Justice" being that BP has not been totally open from the beginning.

Just wondered if BP's ability to block info could be construed as Obstructing justice. Then again, this is perhaps the least of BP's worries.

Wouldn't it be ironic if it's the bp probe that finally puts cheney behind bars...?

"Under threat of receivership and criminal investigation for its destruction of the Gulf of Mexico, foreign oil giant BP has hired a former top aide for Vice President Dick Cheney to be their new spokeswoman. Anne Womack-Kolton has been hired to be “head of U.S. media relations.” A rising star in the Bush-Cheney White House since the 2000 campaign, Womack-Kolton served as Cheney’s press secretary during the 2004 election before running public affairs in the Bush Department of Energy:"

This is probably a good hire for BP: It was press aides to Cheney that made us think that there was WMD in Iraq; outted CIA operative Valerie Plame, and also pushed the idea of giving taxpayer money from the war to private contractors for Iraq.

Think Progress is getting ahead of itself, there is no "threat of receivership" only Robert Reich proposed such action. Unless there is a government source of some type, they are plain wrong.

I proposed it as well. So have a lot of posters here

High powered PR seems to be in line with my perception of the BP plan, which is to put priority on saving the well and ignoring leak stopping solutions that might quickly stop the leak, but would render the well useless.

Send Tony Hayward to stagger around, bloodshot eyes and all, on the beach, to play the tragic hero. Ignore fairly simple options to dam in the wellhead, and diddle around with solutions that would re-establish this enormous asset as a working well. (Unfortunately, the cost cutting axe seems to have come down on the more competent engineers – so there is a bit of a glitch here.) Finally, bamboozle the US government, not so competent itself, into thinking that this is the way a sophisticated technical organization would behave, and that they have the best expertise to fix the problem.

Oh yes, the important component in this plan is PR, so with the full force and credit of PR from the Cheney crowd, toughing it out on the environmental front can be managed.

Still puzzling over the fact that the ‘top hat’ solution was so quickly abandoned, I surmise that they wanted it yanked out of sight before people like me started thinking the obvious solution would be to cast a dam in place, sealed around the well-head, and use the ‘top hat’ as a form for the concrete. Why reject that? It would render the well useless, and a new well would be required.

Very good speculation. One thing is for sure--this will not run as it has until August, which we keep hearing. I'm betting the administration is working independently on the concrete top hat solution while weighing the cost of a counter claim by BP for destroying the remaining (but damaged) equipment that is in place at the well. That stuff still has some value, I suspect. But will the Administration do the gut check and forge ahead saying "screw BP and their counterclaims, until they have made good on all the initial claims against them."

BP wanted former President Bush's press secretary, Dana Perino, until she told them in an interview the Exxon Valdez was an illegal alien.

You can't make this stuff up. If you put this into a work of fiction, no editor would allow such absurdly obvious plotting.
One thing you gotta give to Cheney and thugs: They never have the least bit of shame no matter how many people they destroy.

I wonder what perfume she uses to cover the smell of brimstone after she meets with Cheney in that "undisclosed location" (which, I have it on good authority, happens to be just off the right arm of satan's throne)?
