Jan Brewer, Arizona Governor, To Meet With Obama This Week

Arizona Governor

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama plans to meet this week with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a critic of his administration's efforts to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

A White House official said Tuesday that the meeting between Obama and the Republican governor is scheduled for Thursday. The official requested anonymity to discuss the president's schedule ahead of its public release.

Brewer said last week that she wants to meet with Obama to discuss border security and immigration when she visits Washington. At the time the White House said Obama's schedule wouldn't allow for a meeting, but that the president wanted to talk with Brewer in the future.

Obama announced last week that he would deploy 1,200 troops and request $500 million to help secure the southern border, but Brewer said more troops are needed.

"I think it's important that the leader of the United States and the governor of the State of Arizona sit down face to face and have a conversation about what exactly is going on in Arizona," Brewer said.

Obama has criticized a tough new Arizona law, signed by Brewer in April, that cracks down on illegal immigration. It makes crossing the border illegally a state crime and requires police to verify people's immigration status if the officer has "reasonable suspicion" the person is in the United States illegally.

Arizona's law has prompted fierce debate across the nation. Opponents say the law encourages racial profiling and discrimination against Hispanics. It has sparked massive protests as well as economic boycotts of the state from communities as large at Los Angeles.

Conservatives have hailed Brewer and others supporting the law for taking a hard stand against those in the country illegally, and polls indicate that 59 percent of Americans approve of the measure.

Obama said Arizona's law is the wrong approach to addressing illegal immigration and asked the Justice Department to review the law to determined whether it violates civil rights.

For those who say police won't profile, in today's Oregonian there is a story about a man who was stopped by police because the police officer said that he looked "like he could be a gangster." It lead to a botched traffic stop that resulted in the death of the suspect. It turned out that the man had mental problems but wasn't a gang member.

Police are human. Most are good and then there  Read More...

It's about time some people have finally awakened and realize we are in danger of losing our country and our heritage to the illegal aliens. My support to Brewer and Pearce; hoping the Arizona legislation will save lives on both sides, and assist our economy in righting itself.

The Patriot's guide to Strategic Default.
Maybe if their homes weren't all underwater, they would have to scapegoat immigrants.

correction from my last post.

If you could read Jan Brewers mind; I believe that you would see that the main issue concerning illegal immigration is not crime but demography. Simply put - "too many brown folks." And the fact that such a law will make "the brown folks" (legal and illegal) uncomfortable doesn't bother her one bit...

The fact that the law was sponsored by a known associate of Neo Nazis (no less a state senator-Russell Pearce) is not a troublesome issue for her. Could even be a political advantage in upcoming elections in Arizona.

And if that does not bother the average citizen in this country; we are all in trouble....

They should extend this law to airports and only search Muslims. Not that i am racist but since they seem to be the only ones blowing up planes it just makes sense. As soon as little old white women start bombing airplane and entering our country illegally i say we profile them then too. Until then, not so much.

a) I was asking what you meant by "you people." Perhaps you may have noticed that I didn't flag it as abusive.

b) "How she can be tough? A governor " tough",never seen one."
- Did you want me to respond to that or was that just meant to be silly?
====================================================================
Whatever you do is fine,I been flagged for posting articles of the Constitution,do you consider "You People" to be offensive?

Notice I don't flag you either for implying/questioning , that my post is silly.

Remember the word " tough" have different meanings to different people.Carry On!

Obama at your meeting with Ms. Brewer, invite Max Cleeland and Tammy Duckworth to go shake her hand and say how proud they are of her father dying in Germany fighting the Nazis.....then let her stand there with SHAME written all over her face

Not only is racial profiling discriminatory & unethical, but Arizona Gov. also insists on sending MORE troops. What are her thoughts? Are they....

Keep foreigners out of the country in order to .... Clog the "free nation" with a supreme (perhaps, white) race?... & originally, I thought the nation's will was to help foreign countries with poverty, freedom, and peace? Not frighten them from entering/living in the U.S., knocking them out job opportunities, closing the doors to a place where they can achieve freedom (of their own country), and creating fear among Hispanic natives to Arizona. Racial profiling is just the beginning of what could legally restore prejudice among the United States.

OR send out more troops to keep the ball rolling on this destructive war? So far, with the decision of war, it has only cost us... financially, & humanely. Besides our economic crisis, we are starting to kill, discriminate, and provoke further burdens on foreigners. U.S. citizens who serve as troops despite their natural will, automatically are trained, and absorb the intentions of first degree murder-- a killing which is deliberate and premeditated, not only creating a depraved state of mind among these troops, but is still uncivil and is still a criminal act! Bush created a hopeless foreign killing frenzy, and now we have idiots like Jan Brewer or Rand Paul simply trying to eliminate foreign acceptance in the states. Peace on Earth is all we can hope for.
