Gulf Oil Spill Conspiracy Theories

Mother Jones:

Is there a covert government plan to forcibly evacuate up to 50 million people from the Gulf Coast and move them into FEMA trailers somewhere in Missouri and elsewhere because of the oil spill? Some of the nation's survivalists are convinced that the Obama administration is plotting just such an operation.

...

Yes, even an eco-tragedy can breed conspiracy theories.

I'm not alleging a conspiracy, but this seems awfully lucky for the company betting against a good outcome:

The owner of Deepwater Horizon insured its rig for twice its value, and thus has made a $270 million profit off this disaster.

Funny how the guilty people always make out like bandits when the money involved is big.

The owner of the World Trade Center buildings made out like a bandit with insurance, too.

The real story here is the alien hybrids masquerading as US army troops. They are the ones we really need to worry about! When they take everyone to the FEMA camps they will feed them McDonalds until they are good and fat and then start to harvest them for their food!!!!!!

I think what people don't consider is that "conspiracy" theories take hold when people sense or believe they are being lied to. The conspiracy theories may not be correct, but people are generally correct that they are being lied to by those in power and so they try to figure out what is actually happening and what to do about it. If our authority figures were honest and truthful with us, there would be few if any conspiracy theories. Also, considering how the oil leak may not be stopped for months, and we have hurricanes happening, these folks may be right that people along the coastlines WILL have to evacuate as the oil residue and fumes could be quite poisonous. It is not unreasonable for ordinary citizens to be afraid of this and to try to consider what is to be done, rather than waiting for the government that's in bed with the oil companies to help them.

Of course, the government has no plan to evacuate 40 million people from the coasts as our government doesn't seem to have a plan for much of anything. I do think the sad irony in what this fellow is saying, is that if this gusher is as bad and prolonged as I think it will be, many people MAY have to voluntarily evacuate the coastlines as they might become unlivable. Certainly we will have a massive reduction in fishing and related industries.

"Is there a covert government plan to forcibly evacuate up to 50 million people from the Gulf Coast and move them into FEMA trailers somewhere in Missouri and elsewhere because of the oil spill?"

This is the question. And without articles like this one, I might not think there was anything to be worried about. But this article is trying to equate all so-called conspiracy theories with the so-called Tea Party. And notice the overt misrepresentation,
"John Kaminiski, a "truther" who believes Jews blew up the World Trade Center, "

It's as if simply asking for proof from the government that what they are saying is true is asking too much. But this is a democracy, and trust is irrelevant. We will continue to ask questions and demand proof. That certainly doesn't make us Tea Partiers, whatever that means anyway.
After reading this transparently biased, overtly mis-representative article, I am not sure what to think.

Yeah, the gummint has sure been hiding those alien hybrids from us... So you'd rather believe someone who has repeatedly warned us that we were going to be rounded up and sent to FEMA camps for a variety of different reasons - none of which have been true?

BTW, I googled John Kaminiski, and went to his website. And from his own words, he IS a truther and DOES believe that Jews blew up the WTC. So if he says it on his website, I guess you fail when you call it an overt misrepresentation. Big time.

So after reading your transparently biased, overtly mis-representative posting, I'm pretty sure you ARE John Kaminiski. Or a worshiper at the throne of his blatherings, any way.

There is a difference between Zionism and Judaism, even though they are often used, incorrectly, interchangeably.
In any case, the article was quite blatant in its attempts to associate anyone asking questions as a "tea partier." Some of us don't think the official story of 911 is true, and many people questioned the wisdom of the HINI vaccine as well as the hype, and some of us wonder just what the government is hiding from us about extraterrestrials, but questioning these things in no way makes anyone a "tea partier" by association.

what if the conspiracy was from the republicans/big oil. there has been a push to blame obama. we have a crisis where he must rely on the expertise of the oil companies and the narrative is and has been that this is his Katrina. they are in control but he takes a large and growing share of the blame thanks to the media and how the media is telling this story.

The Mad Tinfoil Hatters can find reasons to be paranoid in ANY given situation. It's not much different from how Creationists can find "God's handiwork" in everything. Self-delusion is a very powerful thing.

The fiction writers at Fox are huddling with republican t party scripters to come up with their daily talking points and are having to work overtime, reaching ever deeper into that well of deception and fear. Most people, at least those with a mind to think for themselves, would find that kind of work unpatriotic and disgusting. We can only hope there are showers available at the end of their shifts to wipe the slime off their bodies.

If during a hurricane, what if people have to evacuate because the storm picks up oil droplets and deposits them many hundreds of kilometers inland? And if they stay, they will get sicker than they ever imagined? And if they get sick, no one in the Gulf will be able to take care of them? And if they are left there, sick and dying (potentially) in the wake of a hurricane with no relief, what then?

What IF people have to be evacuated to areas inland? What IF?

Are these 'Baggers and Mountain Men gonna make that even worse? The Country is going down the dumper if we let these kinds of conspiracy scheme to take hold.

I simply don't get it. I don't get it.

We need to tie the BP Spill to alien invaders from say the TV Show V; include Superman from DC comics and say Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic 4 from Marvel Comics, too. What about Swap Thing from DC, too?

Wow, a deranged mind is a interesting thing.
